Guest guest
Hi Ian- I've been trying to make money babysitting to pay for my herbal habits. Going to go do some herb walks with someone northwest of us next week. He has no clue what is growing on his property except plantain....I thought our thin leafed planatin is not medicinal, and haven't used it at all.Someone told him that all plantain is medicinal !? I wrote to Walter Kingsley Taylor( The Guide To Florida Wildflowers) and asked him whats up with Bidens alba (white flower)here in Florida. In his book he says that Bidens alba is the same thing as Bidens pilosa(which has a yellow flower)My God, the medicinal properties claimed for Bidens pilosa, Ian you wouldn't believe it!! (See it at www.rain-tree.com click down at the bottom on plants, then on botanical names, then on bidens pilosa) Walter says they indeed are the same plant, just different names and different color flowers...unbelieveable to me, but if he is right, the possibilities are really wonderful. Its the most prolific WEED we have down here. Elaine - Dr. Ian Shillington herbal remedies Wednesday, November 13, 2002 9:25 PM Re: [herbal remedies] Re: Interested? Elaine, where you bin girl??? Guest guest
Elaine, I use plantain in my salves....it's great stuff!!!! Remedies For: Vulnerary, expectorant, demulcent, anti-inflammatory, astringent, diuretic, anti-microbial. Both the Greater Plantain and its close relative Ribwort Plantain have valuable healing properties. It acts as a gentle expectorant whilst also soothing inflamed and sore membranes, making it ideal for coughs and mild bronchitis. Its astringency aids in diarrhea, hemorrhoids and also in cystitis where there is bleeding. Dosage: Infusion: pour a cup of boiling water onto 2 teaspoonfuls of the dried herb and leave to infuse for 10 minutes. This should be drunk three times a day. Ointment: an ointment can be made that will aid the treatment of hemorrhoids and cuts. Tincture: take 2-3ml of the tincture three times a day. nice to see you back Suzi Web Hosting - Let the expert host your site
Guest guest
Suzanne, in Florida where I live we have Plantago virginicia(Southern Plantain). I've never seen common Plantain like you're talking about(not over here in Okeechobee). The Southern Plantain evidently has no medicinal properties, because I haven't found it listed anywhere as such. Guest guest
What you should do hon is make money with your herbal habits to pay for the babysitting - LOL. To my knowledge, all species of plantago (Plantain) are medicinal and can be used in any formula that calls for it. After we find a buyer for the ranch and move back to Florida, you'll have to send me some of that thar Bidnes Alba. Whatcha wanna trade for some??? ;o) Love, Doc Ian "Doc" Shillington N.D.505-772-5889Dr.IanShillington - Elaine herbal remedies Thursday, November 14, 2002 6:35 AM [herbal remedies] Re:Wheres Elaine been? Guest guest
Ian, I'll take your word for the plantain being medicinal. You moving back to Florida?????HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! If I sent you seeds, I'm sure the Bidens would grow there, the wretched stuff grows everywhere! you probably have it and don't even know it!! Guest guest
Janet, I don't know what an adaptogen is???? I do believe we should never depend on one plant to do anything, but use them with something else. Thats just me. I'm constantly amazed at the plants that are out there in the wild.
