Guest guest
Actually, Misty, I have an autistic son, and his problem is not too little empathy but far far far far too much - he feels EVERYTHING from EVERYONE he comes in contact with, and is unable to handle or process it, to tunes out to survive... when helped to handle/process/compartmentalize what he is being inundated with, he is the most loving and empathic person imaginable. I've heard the same from many other parents of autistic children, and directly from autistic adults. So, though autistic folks may have " learned " to utilize other areas of their brains, and to close down the parts that overwhelm them, this is not an innate nor necessary nor identifying aspect of autism. Joy ----- I wonder if many of these abundant kids with autism, are alien hybrids, as they too lack empathy.
