HIGH doses of vitamin E could shorten your life, scientists warned

yesterday.

Research showed that daily doses of the vitamin above 400 units were linked

to a 10 per cent increase in risk of death.

Even doses above 200 units were considered risky.

Many capsules on sale contain 400 to 800 units of the vitamin but the

recommended daily allowance is just 15.

The scientists studied 19 clinical trials between 1993 and 2004 and

involving more than 136,000 patients in North America, Europe and China.

Dr Edgar Miller of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, USA, said: " If people

are taking a multivitamin, they should make sure it contains no more than a

low dose of vitamin E. "
