Guest guest
Oleander is a commonly grown plant along Texas highways and overpasses, especially south of Austin. Trimming the lower new growth makes the plant look better, and has not drawn any objection. Wash the trimmings well, to remove dust and grime before cooking. All the big nurserys carry the plant, as does Home Depot, and Lowes, and WalMart in the spring. It's about $5 per plant, grows fast in a pot or in ground, and needs little water after it's roots are established, in about three months. On Padre Island, near Corpus Christi, Texas, the main road is lined with about a mile of good oleander, badly in need of a trim year round. A plastic grocery bag full of 6 " clippings makes about a quart of condensed soup, which when preserved, doubles the volume, and will last a year or more.
