I will remain a purist on this issue. Though I do not have the means in front of me to reference the exact issue in the Townsend Letter, an issue about 12 years ago gave the actual number of free radicals generated in irradiated food. I feel safer standing in front of an x-ray machine. I want my spinach raw. I want my almonds raw, not "homogenized"! I care not a hair what Europe accepts; a continent that has been going Godless, sterile, and into more and more sexual perversion and societal deviancy for 40 years is not my guiding light of wisdom. Much rather I take my chances

with microorganisms than more governmental control to denature my food. Leave my food alone! Get your jeans and your genes out of my food. Ed, I trust you more in that than any other lawyer. However as a student of human nutrition for 31 years, I trust my own notions about the food supply and others who have been involved a lifetime in this study. There is a 100% concurrence that we'd rather live w/ microorganisms that eat anything irradiated.Dr. Goebeled4soup <ed4636 > wrote: David, in Europe, irradiated food has been accepted, without reported negative consequence for at least 15 years. What I've seen says it kills active, live, bacteria in the food only when it is radiated and packaged. Once irridated, the radiation does not remain in the food.

The bacteria free food later does not kill the natural bacteria we need within our digestive system. That was a fear over a decade ago, but has been proven to be unfounded. You can search "food irradiation europe" for many articles going way back. There was a recent special on the History Channel on this also. With the spread of disease from imported fruit and vegetables from countries to the south which use human waste in their fields and is handled by poor folks with diseases like cholera and TB, it makes sense. The chlorine, floride, and lead in our water supplies is much more harmful than irradiation could ever be. Question, what molecules are changed in the food when irradiated, and how does that change the nutritional value of the food? Any published studies on that topic? oleander soup , ahzoov wrote: > > , > Your gov't wants to irradiate all our food. They say it will insure against > e-coli. I forsee two sections in the grocery store:

Section 1: Food with all the natural and man induced bacteria, with

warnings about possible illness including a long list of possible

disease which cannot be washed off during processing.

Section 2: Food that has been nuked, with warnings about how the

nutritional value(unproven) may not be as good as food in section #1,

but with a guarantee it will last unopened for at least six months

after purchase, including milk, eggs, meat, and cheese, and is disease

free.

I'm looking for a way to invest in companies that make the nuke

machines. Ed

If section number two were honest, it would also include warnings

about the effects of radiation producing potentially harmful changes,

including mutagens, as outlined in all the articles and studies posted

here in response to this issue.

If that happened you might be able to pick up some stock options on

those macbines at a good price.

If it doesn't happen, I will be one of the ones shouting from the

rooftops about all the dangers.

Although the debate on irradiating food is valuable and informative, if anyone actually reads the docket in question (just google the number) you can see it actually has nothing to do with irradiating veggies, but is directed, among other things, at sterilizing the soil where it's grown. In effect doing away with small farming enterprises and particularly damaging organic farming.
