Guest guest
Hi,The lobelia extract under the tongue sounds like a good idea.If the alignment of the vertebral column in the upper part of the neck is off, this can cause seizures. See a chiropractor to find and correct this problem.A ketogenic diet helps 60% of those for which drug therapy is ineffective. Please see the movie, "First Do No Harm"; it has references in it from archives at John-Hopkins University Hospital and the Mayo Clinic. This information has been around for about 75 years, but doctors do not use it because drugs are SOOOOO much more convenient (and that is all they are taught to do!).Michael L. Guest guest
Michael, Thank you. Where can we get a good lobelia extract? We read ingredient labels like most people read the newspaper and we're very leery of most over-the-counter medications and herbal supplements because of the inactive fillers in them. We've not gone the chiropractic route yet, but that's a wonderful idea. We tried the ketogenic diet before he was ever put on the medications. Unfortunately, that didn't work. When he has a generalized seizure, it's usually only once. After that, he will have " episodes " of losing touch with reality. It's very difficult to explain, but he will lose motor strength for a few seconds, then he will begin talking or counting, sometimes chewing. During these times, there is a very strong scent of acetone to his breath. His neurologist says that has nothing to do with the seizures at all, but I have a difficult time believing that since it's the only time the acetone smell is present. Also, he's been tested for diabetes and does not have that. He had a severe hyponatremic reaction to the Trileptal, so we make sure his salt intake is adequate. He will also drink a sodium bicarb solution, 1/3 teaspoon to about 6 ounces of water, when the acetone smell is strongest and this seems to help bring him out. During our research, we came across skullcap as a treatment for epilepsy. Do you have any information on it for use in cases like this. We will definitely get the lobelia. Thanks again. Guest guest
For the liquid lobelia, search for Nature's Sunshine, or Standard Process Labs, online. You will probably have to cruise the site to find a list of distributors or doctors; find one that is near you. You may be able to order online referencing that doctor or distributor (some of them have hot links on the company website). The worst case scenario is that you would have to call the distributor and order that way.If you try and it becomes too involved or burdensome, contact me personally, goebelchx. I can make the arrangements directly for you. (But we have to keep the group discussion transaction-free!)The diet is one you have to do for 3 to 6 years for it to be effective. You would probably notice no change at all from the ketogenic diet if it was not strictly undertaken for anything less than one month. So, depending on your particular circumstances, this may be worth a second shot.Where do you live? I might be able to come up with a chiropractor for you.Michael L Goebel, DC, ACNblondfury123 <showard208 wrote: Michael, Thank you. Where can we get a good lobelia extract? Guest guest
We live close to Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. If you could come up with a good chiropractor we would really appreciate it. We tried the ketogenic diet for about a year. This was before he started taking any medications at all. Like I said before, the Trileptal did calm the seizures down to about one day a month, compared to 7 before, but the Neurontin did a better job. He came off the Trileptal completely last September, but continues to take the Neurontin 400 mg once a day (supposed to be 3 times), except when he is having multiple seizures, then we up it to twice a day. He was put on Dilantin in 1997 which did nothing to stop the seizures, but did make him groggy and fuzzy headed. I will call our local health-food store and see if they have the lobelia extract you mentioned. If not, I will get it online. We really appreciate all the input from you guys. We've been on the fringes for a couple of weeks now and really enjoy the help that flows on this board. Thank you all.
