Hi Melissa,

I've been taking plant-based enzymes for about 10 years - 2 with each

meal, and sometimes 2 between meals if I think about it, and 2 before

bed. Taking them with meals will help to digest the meal. Between

meals, or on an empty stomach, it goes into your blood stream and

cleans up the " gunk " .

Make sure you get the " plant-based " kind, as those are the enzymes

that are found in raw food, but are cooked out - so you want to

replace the plant enzymes that you are missing out on. Pancreatic- or

fruit-based enzymes are good for only a certain pH. They don't work

in most bodies.

No matter which brand you choose, make sure they are microblended with

some type of whole food that will supply minerals. Enzymes do not

work without minerals. This is the one I take -

http://tinyurl.com/mkwo - the whole food that this one is blended with

is blue green algae, which is loaded with minerals. This brand also

works no matter what your pH level is.

You can do the " pudding test " to make sure your enzymes are active.

Open a capsule and stir the contents into a cup of pudding. It should

liquify the pudding within just a few minutes. If it doesn't do that,

then it's not going to work inside you, either.

Hello All,

I'm going to be starting enzymes soon and would love to know what

brands have worked successfully for you, and what the frequency and

dosage was?

Many thanks,

Melissa

Hi Melissa,

Smart move!

Enzymes are number 2 on my " she's gotta have it "

list, right up there with BlueGreen Algae.

How do I know when I have forgotten them too long?

My digestion is fine, but my joints start aching!

Enzymes do a lot more than just help you break down

your food.

Which one is best for you depends on what your

needs are. Some people need more of a particular

" -ase " . For instance if you have a big problem with

lact-ose you want to look for a product with lact-ase.

If you have a hard time with fats (lipids) you

need a product with more lip-ase.

For enzyme therapy as a way of clearing the blood

you want a product with many forms of protease.

Some enzyme products are blended with herbs or

other substances that help them to be more effective.

As with everything else, different people have

different preferences.

I like a strong product, but other people do better

with a milder formula. If you choose an enriched

product, which of your body systems needs more

support?

Since I shop at my own stores, see below, I

buy my enzymes there, so my personal expereince

is about those.

Most health food stores have a good selection.

Visit http://enzymestuff.com for information on

how to figure out formulas.

" Digestazon Plus " , on a base of digestive herbs

from the Amazon Rainforest, is great for extra

liver support.

I have had people say it is the best formula they

ever used. I find the herbal factor excellent, but

I usually reach for 2 capsules.

SBGzyme Plus on the other hand (formerly E12)

by Simplexity is so strong that one capsule will

do. It is enriched with ginger, fennel and cayenne,

which gives a boost to the circulatory system.

It is also blended with the powerful bluegreen

algae, and that helps the enzymes be more active.

This is my personal favorite and the one I reach for

when I want to use enzymes as a generl blood purifier.

But, some people really preferred the gentler

" original enzymes " formula when E12 first came

out.

Sorry to confuse you here. I just want to make the

point that you have to play around a bit!

You can find great information on enzymes at this

generic website: http://enzymestuff.com

Dear Carol & Ieneke,

Thank you both for your detailed responses, they make alot of sense

and it's becoming more clear to me each day why enzymes are no

longer " an option " in our protocol any longer.

Have a great day!

Very best,

Melissa

hi Melissa,

I've been using New Chapter enzymes in the powder form and really like

them. Almost all of their vitamins/supplements are organic and come

from vegetarian sources.

Hi Carolg,

I'll try to remember to add my last initial when I write in, so people

know who's who!

Yes, the one I take is a powder - in a capsule - I take this kind -

http://tinyurl.com/ey8l - it's the most potent enzyme that I have ever

tested, with 13 different enzymes plus ginger and fennel to further

help with digestion.

The other one I really like from the same company - not quite as

strong, and it's a little cheaper - so I take that one between meals

Either one will pass the " pudding test "

Hi Carol M,

Thanks for the link. Will surely pass on to hubby and our

daughter. Have your tried Graden of Life if that is Rubin's one? I

get some supplements at vitaminshoppe.com. If they have it cheaper

online, tell the local store and they must match the price. Great

deals so far from what we bought. Yes, I heard the powder is much

better to take. My daughter doing pill form and hubby doing one

with powder in capsule. Again thanks. Beautiful to learn from each

other here.

No I have not tried the Garden of Life enzymes. Not sure how good

they would work because they are a " caplet " , not powder. I wonder how

long it would take to work. Plus, I'm not sure I like the " other

ingredients " listed on the ingredient label. And I don't see any

whole food listed that would supply the minerals so the enzymes can

work. I probably wouldn't use those.

Dear Melissa,

I have been taking a Whole Food Enzyme for 3 years and I can really feel

the difference when I miss a dosage. What I take is Digestazon Plus it

is made by the Amazon Herb Co. I usually take 2-4 vegicaps before or

even after each meal. The dosage depends on what I am eating. For

example a salad takes less to digest so I would only take 2 vegicaps.

However if I eat anything with yeast I usually take 4 vegicaps. If you

are interested in finding out more here is a link that can give more

information:

Steph,

I quite like Digestazon plus for its herbal support. It definitely

takes a load off the liver. It lives in my cupboard, next to the

Metabazon, which has become a " she's gotta have it! " product.

AND, like yourself, I find myself reaching for 2 or more

automatically.

This gentle action is exactly what some people like about it.

But for my own use I prefer E12, oops, renamed SBGzymeplus.

All I need is one, occasionally 2.

Alas, the evil Canadian government only allows me to import it

once every three months (don't ask) and this shipment is spoken

for by a friend. So it's back to Dplus, for now. I'll live.

And my next shipment of SBGzymes will be bigger.

Moral of story: different enzyme products feel better to different

people. Heck, different products of anything do the trick for

different people!

If you are eating a salad -raw, you should not need enzymes at that

time.

" If you are eating a salad -raw, you should not need enzymes at that time. "

Not for everyone I must say. I myself have to take at least 2 enzymes when I eat

salad as my body does not digest the greens well. Any greens for that matter or

raw veggies. I have terrible cramps when I eat any of these things. I've done

cleanses and am in very good health so that's not the problem--just my body

cannot handle these things. It's the only food I have problems with except for

potatoes and squash. Can't digest those well either.

Hello Rhoda,

The enzymes I used were:

Bromelain from pineapple 45mg - many benefits including preventing metastasis.

Pancreatin 100mg - inhibits growth of tumours.

Papain from papaya 60mg ** this is the one that helps break down fibrin

[fibrinolysis] It helps prevent blood clots. It also reduces the toxic side

effects of radiation - I am loathe to call it therapy!!  Another benefit - it

helps to degrade the immune complexes that are theorised to cause MS and RA.

Also interferes with the growth of cancer cells, stimulates interleukin 1, 6 and

Tumour Necrosis Factor [alpha].

Bile salts 35 mg [for emulsifying fat, also prevents gallstones]

Protease 50mg - this included the 2 fruit ones above as well as chymotrypsin,

pepsin, and trypsin. Inhibits metastasis.

Amylase 20mg - found in rice miso, and bananas, same as ptyalin [saliva

enzyme, NOT pancreatic amylase] digests starch. [if I remember rightly, we don't

produce it until we are 12 months old - thus many people are probably

inadvertantly setting their babies up for allergies by feeding them grain before

this time.]

lipase 10mg - the name says it all, digestion of dietary fats.

dandelion root 70mg - stimulates bile flow and many other benefits to spleen,

kidneys, and esp. liver.

nettle leaf 60mg - alleviates some cancers, RA, asthma, improves lactation.

I used 3 capsules with every main meal. I stopped after 3 months, got the

niggling pain back, so started on them again. The bromelain activates

plasminogen to form plasmin, which catalyses the conversion of fibrin to soluble

products. [Gotu Kola also! We grow it & eat it raw in salads or as we are

passing the plants. Dandelion too.]

Best wishes,

Maracuja
