Guest guest
Tony, May, Dr. Loretta, and all, A friend just told me that she is supposed to have rotator cuff surgery in about a week. She also said that she's heard horror stories about things being worse after the surgery. I told her that I didn't know about that in particular, but you guys are so good that I was sure you could at least make some suggestions. Glucosamine chondroitin is good for rebuilding cartilage, right? Would that work for the rotator cuff? What about colloidal silver? She's scared about going in for the surgery, and I told her I would find out what I could. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Guest guest
Tell her NOT to take extra vitamin E and A starting 3 days before her surgery. Vit E, in particular, is a potent blood thinner (I found out the hard way in a hernia surgery - I bled so much it looked like I was pregnant!). After the surgery, the glucosamine-chondroiten is a good idea. Add MSM and Co-Q10. All the anti-inflammantion herbs are a good idea; ginger, nettle root extract, fenugreek and thyme, boswellan complex, bioflavinoids, are among the many available.Post surgical rehab should include ultrasound, passive and active range of motion movements, PNF stretching, active release or myofascial release therapy, and finally some strength and coordination training. I am generally dissatisfied with the post surgical rehab I have seen from hospitals and physical therapy clinics. Your friend might see a chiropractor who specializes in sports injuries. One such as that is most likely to include all the recommended above protocols.I have treated a patient with a full thickness tear of the supraspinatus tendon. It was ripped about 3/4 of the way across the entire tendon, but not a complete rip. It took 5 months, and I sent him to consult with an orthopedic surgeon 4 times during his treatment period. He was able to avoid surgery. In fact he had a better range of motion and strength with the treated arm after the course of treatment!Maybe your friend can speak with one of these specialized chiropractors before her surgery and set up rehab with him.God bless,Michael L Goebel, DC, ACNblondfury123 <showard208 wrote: Tony, May, Dr. Loretta, and all, A friend just told me that she is supposed to have rotator cuff surgery in about a week. Guest guest
Michael, Thank you so much. I will forward this to her at once! She's been doing physical therapy for a while now, but apparently she's not been working with any type of chiropractor. Again, thank you very much for your quick response. Guest guest
I second everything that Dr. Michael has said. Having worked very close with an excellent chiropractor, please encourage your friend to get a second opinion before she has the surgery. She may still need to have surgery; however, in this situation a good chiro is worth their weight in GOLD. I would highly suggest, should she need surgery, that she cleanse and detoxify her liver, gallbladder and digestive tract after a week, post surgery. I would also recommend systemic enzymes for scar tissue. Trevinol Professional is an excellent one that I use with my clients as it contains high levels of Serrapeptase. Because any type of surgery is ALWAYS a risk, she may want to take a look at this site: http://www.aidmyrotatorcuff.com/?REF=GRotatorCuff along with finding a good chiro. What they are recommending seems to be very good, although I have never had any feedback from anyone using their products. I would also check into Far Infra Red therapy. If it were me, I would exhaust all natural therapy possibilities before agreeing to surgery. Guest guest
You have already received wonderful information from Dr G and Dr L. I would only add that colloidal silver and colloidal gold used together are often good for joint problems, as is collagen and the other items that have been recommended. I have an old shoulder injury that flares up - sometimes by all the string of 14-16 hour days slumped over a computer key board - and I take something called Joint Support which contains glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM and collagen. Maybe some other stuff too. I just take my daily swigs from the bottle until the problem is gone, or mostly gone. That and try to give my shoulder a wee bit of rest and make sure to do some flexibility motions off and on during the day. In general, taking bromelain right up to within a day or two of surgery and then resuming after surgery will help speed healing greatly. oleander soup , " blondfury123 " <showard208 wrote: > > Tony, May, Dr. Loretta, and all, > > A friend just told me that she is supposed to have rotator cuff > surgery in about a week. Guest guest
Yes, the surgery is horrid. My Mom had it done and said it was the worst pain she'd ever had from surgery, and she'd had quite a few. When it all finally quit--the pain--she did have full movement of her arm again, but that lasted about 5 years when it tore again. At the time I researched and found that a Bowen Technique practitioner could really help with rotator cuff problems, eliminating the need for surgery. I told Mom about it, but she was of the generation that thought only doctors knew what to do. But if your friend lives in an area where a Bowen Practitioner is (you can google Bowen Technique and there is a single website where many practitioners are listed by state/area) then I'd suggest seeing them first. samala,ReneeOn Sat, May 31, 2008 at 7:08 PM, blondfury123 <showard208 wrote: Tony, May, Dr. Loretta, and all, A friend just told me that she is supposed to have rotator cuff surgery in about a week. Guest guest
Renee, Thank you so much for your response. I will forward this to my friend immediately. She wrote yesterday and said she was NOT having the surgery! YAY!! Score one for the good guys (you guys!)! She said she was having a difficult time finding a chiro who can help her, so I'll check Bowen Technique practitioners in her area too. She may have to go to Nashville for treatment, but I don't think she'll mind. Again, thank you. You guys are GREAT!! Shara oleander soup , Gaiacita <gaiacita wrote: > > Yes, the surgery is horrid.
