Guest guest
On the topic of etiquette, sort of....I just remembered a story DH heard from a coworker. DH's friend's doorbell rang. It was the Morgan kids from down the street. They were out fundraising for something, holding a big coffee can and asking for donations. DH's friend asked what charity is was for. The kids informed him that they were collecting for the Robert & Jennifer Morgan Scholarship Fund. The kids doing the collecting were Robert & Jennifer Morgan! These kids' parents had sent their own kids out in the neighborhood to beg money off of their neighbors!!LOLOL Hey, beats having to sent up savings accounts for your own kids, right? Just panhandle the spare change off your neighbors.......this was not a joke, it was done as serious as a heart attack........unreal sluggy
Guest guest
Sounds very tacky to me. Now on the other hand, if the child had knocked on my door asking for spare jobs to do to earn $$ for college, I'd gladly find them something to do.Ellen LaFleche-Christian Lilac Hill Homestead / Vermont http://tinyurl.com/lpfaf Sucker-punch spam with award-winning protection. Guest guest
Hola Ellen- I think that that you are living in the past! I remember when I graduated from HS and started Coll. a month latter! I had families who would let me take care of their yards, and the cleaning of their cars! And with the $10 or $15 that they paid me I paid the tuition and bought the books and at the beggining I also paid for a ride! Kids right now kids do not want to do like we did then; they do not want to work for less than $10 an hour! LuisEllen Christian <scentednights2002 wrote: Sounds very tacky to me. Guest guest
I think it depends on the kids. Mine know that we cannot pay for college for them. If they want to go, they need scholarships and jobs. My 13yo already has money saved up.Ellen LaFleche-Christian Lilac Hill Homestead / Vermont http://tinyurl.com/lpfaf Everyone is raving about the all-new Mail beta. Guest guest
Well that is nice! I tell you- I have problems with my legs and feet so I can not do too much, but I also have a yard and grounds to up keep! Everytime that I ask someone to do the work they ask for $100! So if you know somebody who wants to make $20 or $25 once in a while, send them to me!! LuisEllen Christian <scentednights2002 wrote: I think it depends on the kids. Guest guest
Very true! It depends on how you raise them. My son was raised in an affluent neighborhood with kids who got a brand new car for their 16th birthday! (Not joking either.) My husband and I had nowhere NEAR the money our neighbors did, and my son had to not only buy a used car with his own money, but to earn scholarships through good grades and/or work his way through school. He said he resented it when he was younger as he was always the poor kid on the block, but as an adult, he looks back at it as an exercise in character building. Of all the rich and spoiled kids he went to school with...well, he's gone farther than all of them and is quite proud of his accomplishments. <smiles> --Celia-- RealSimple , Ellen Christian <scentednights2002 wrote: > > I think it depends on the kids.
