Guest guest
Carle,it sounds yummy! I'd have to agree with guy, there is nothing better than hot bread and butter. Maybe a drizzle of honey on it. Yum! I am avoiding grains as much as possible, but any homemade bread is better than store bought bread. Much healthier, especially since you are adding in seeds. Pumpkin, sunflower and linseed/flaxseed, we call it here, are very good choices. Barbara posted a recipe for something called Hunza bread a while back, which she really likes. I haven't made it yet, but I can dig up the recipe if you're curious. cyndi In a message dated 10/2/2007 8:23:34 A.M. Guest guest
How long does it last before it becomes stale? Looks great but I would not use canola oil [rapeseed]. It is normally GM and it makes bees very aggressive. Carle http://ourholisticlife.blogspot.com/
Guest guest
Yes, but Hunza bread is not your everyday bread because it is sweet. It can be eaten with (raw) butter only. It is quite chewey also and not everyone likes to chew. Barbara Barbara posted a recipe for something called Hunza bread a while back, which she really likes. Guest guest
Yes, here is what I do. First and foremost skip the powdered soy milk, you don't need it! It is bad for your health. Then, use coconut oil instead of canola oil which is also bad for you. I make half the recipe because it just fits perfectly in one cookie sheet and because I don't need more bread at one time. Also, I use buckwheat flour. I tried both but made with buckwheat when you mix it it has the consistency of a dough but it really is a batter. I also prefer the taste of buckwheat. And you may need more water than what the recipe calls for. Last thing, don't let it dry in the oven...it is plenty chewy already... LOL Eat it with plenty of sweet butter, that means unsalted. I think this is all...I hope you will try it Barbara No kneading. Guest guest
It never becomes stale. I kept it for several weeks in fridge. It can dry out more but it is not stale. Guest guest
COCONUT OIL QUESTION! thanks Barbara mmm I was wondering about the soya milk. But I am puzzled by the use of coconut oil instead of canola oil. i am very aware not to use canola/rapeseed but here in south africa we tend to use alot on extra Virgin [the brunt of may jokes] Olive oil. But reciently I have been exposed to the idea of using coconut oil. Does any one have more info on this subject for me?
Guest guest
If you want to learn more about coconut oil, read the book by Mary Enig PhD. "Eat Fat, Lose Fat". She studied fats for over 30 years and she is telling us that raw butter is THE healthiest fat there is and CO is the close second. She also says that no other vegetable oil is healthy. You can also google for CO and benefits.
