Guest guest
I have several Freecycle groups, lol. I have been involved with Freecycle for about 4 years. Time taken moderating your group depends on several factors: First of all, have you ever moderated a group of any sort before? It helps to have some knowledge of how works. You'll need to be somewhat familiar, so that you can start your group and make the necessary settings. It's not rocket science, but if you don't have a lot of time to fool around with , it can be somewhat frustrating. You can always do the minimum to get the group started, and then modify it as you go along. Second, you may or may not choose to moderate all messages. For example, I do not moderate messages on this list, everyone just posts as they please. But on a group where people are giving things away, or asking for things, you may choose to read and approve all messages to avoid spam, or items of a questionable nature that you don't want on your list. My groups are not moderated. I just deal with the spam or what-not as it comes along, which is not frequently. Third-if you go to frecycle.org, you can "apply" to start your group. then your group will be listed in their database. People will find your group when they go to freecycle.org and search for a group in your area. No other promotion is needed. Trust me, they WILL come! Every morning I find people waiting at the door to join. Once your request to start a group is approved by Freecycle, you just go to and start it up. Fourth-there are support groups for Freecycle group owners. You can find the answers to many of your questions there. And I can help you too, just email me privately, and we can chat more about this. Hope this helps, Cyndi In a message dated 10/7/2007 10:17:13 A.M. Pacific Daylight Time, kari writes: Another good idea! Question about freecycle, though - there is no freecycle group within 100 miles of me. Does anyone here moderate a freecycle group? I'm curious how much time it would take, and what to do to "advertise" to get it going. Kari See what's new at AOL.com and Make AOL Your Homepage. I plan to suggest a name draw but expect some resistance to the idea. Does anyone have any good ideas for inexpensive, homemade gifts? Anything from the kitchen I would want to be relatively healthy (though no one in the family appreciates our diet choices). Kari-- Remember to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle & Free-cycle!
