Grand Opening Celebration

For those of you who couldn’t join us at the Grand Opening of our new World Headquarters, here is a recap of our celebration on May 1st when we opened our doors at 10 am to crowds of people anxious to explore our new building.

The event attracted people from all over the Northwest and a few people from across the country. We had over 3,000 guests come to join in the festivities. Bob and Charlee were overwhelmed by the enthusiasm with which our community celebrated the success of Bob’s Red Mill. Dave Hunt, Oregon State Represenative; Bill Bradbury, Oregon Secretary of State; along with Jim Bernard, Mayor of Milwaukie, helped Bob and Charlee in a ribbon cutting ceremony to kick off the celebration.

Guests enjoyed pancakes made with our Whole Grain Buttermilk Pancake Mix and gluten free Banana Bread Muffins for our gluten intolerant friends. Visitors enjoyed tours of our new facility where we showcased how our products are made. Zeek Szidon, from our engineering team, displayed millstones and explained how they grind our products.

Between pancakes and tours, visitors watched cooking demonstrations and admired our displays of antique milling equipment. Bob and Charlee greeted guests and told stories about starting the mill. People were delighted to meet them in person and share their love of milling whole grains.

Scottish Oatcakes

Visitors at the Grand Opening were delighted by this recipe for delicate Scottish Oatcakes. A favorite recipe here at the Mill, we think you'll enjoy them too!

Scottish Oatcakes are small, round treats that make a perfect whole grain snack. Far from what Americans typically imagine when the word "cake" is used, oatcakes are similar to biscuits. They are delightful on their own, or topped with jam for a sweet indulgence. Oatcakes also make a great base for cheese and other savory toppings. Scottish Oatmeal

Oatmeal originated in Scotland centuries ago and was different from our modern rolled oats. A coarse meal was produced by slowly grinding the kernel between two large millstones. Bob's Red Mill Scottish oatmeal is produced in the same old-fashioned way and contains all the health-giving nutrients of the best quality oats from which it was ground--the germ, endosperm, and the fiber.
