Dear Supporter,

Maybe you already shop for organics, filter your tap water, consult our safe fish list, and check personal care products in Skin Deep.

But do you do the same for your pet's food, water, and grooming products?

Now is a good time to start. Recent EWG research finds that dogs and cats not only carry toxic industrial chemicals--carcinogens, hormone disruptors, and neurotoxins--in their bodies, but at even higher levels than ever found in humans.

That's why Environmental Working Group has teamed up with one determined (and scruffy) dog named Eddie to launch Pets for the Environment. Sign up now for email updates on the latest in pet health, food, and products from EWG and Eddie.

Your pets may not be worried about their chemical exposures, but with their smaller bodies and shorter life spans, they're more likely to develop life-threatening diseases. Hyperthyroidism in cats is no longer rare but common, and dogs are 35 times more likely than humans to develop skin cancer. Because we share the same environment, the diseases we see in our pets could be a warning that we face similar health threats.

Given what we already know about the lack of human health protections, should it come as a surprise that the U.S. government doesn't require companies to test pet toys, furniture, or even pet food for safety? If you care about pets, join Eddie in his mission to create a healthy and safe environment for us all. Sign up now for email updates on Eddie's research and the kind of healthful tips you expect from EWG, but now for your pet.

Our team of researchers is working closely with Eddie to:

test pet food and water for dangerous chemicals

find out what's really in pet shampoos and flea repellents

push companies to stop using unsafe chemicals and get the government to pass legislation to protect pets (and people, too!)

Our loyal companions deserve safe food, water, and toys. Please join EWG and Pets for the Environment in our fight to pass toxic chemical reform, ensuring our furry, feathered, and finned friends can live long and healthy lives.

Sincerely,

Jane Houlihan

Vice President for Research
