Guest guest
I need some help but I don’t want to cross over to TMI. Since I had kids (4.5 and 6 years ago), my AF (period) has been very light. It is too light to wear tampons and I’ve found them to be uncomfortable now. I tried the cup thing but even though I did most changes in the shower, I seemed to get some kind of bacterial infection. Over the last few cycles, I’ve noticed that pads which I’ve traditionally worn even with a tampon cause me much irritation on the outer lips down there. The irritation this cycle began after 24 hours of a pad. I’ve been putting Desitin on to help but it doesn’t seem to be helping that much. I’ve thought about switching to natural cotton pads. What could be going on? I turned 40 this year (is that the problem?) and I’ve noticed over the last few years that I am more and more sensitive down there and get all sorts of irritations. I never had yeast infections or bacterial infections until recently. DH thinks I don’t clean enough but I’ve always felt a woman’s body doesn’t need special cleaning (a daily shower with soap will do) and I don’t really do anything differently than I ever have. I had gotten the occasional UTI but that really isn’t the same. I don’t feel my overall health or diet have really changed. I would be considered healthy by all accounts (weight, BP, cholesterol, etc). So I do use birth control. Pre kids, I took the pill for many, many years. Post kids, I used the patch for 1.5 years, then switched to the Nuvaring and just switched back to the pill. Anyone have any thoughts on what is going on or what I can use for a very light period which won’t irritate me? Erika
Guest guest
Yep, this is all w-a-y TMI!!! My apologies in advance to all you guys out there...you may want to delete this post. <wink-wink> Erika: May I ask how old you are? If you are in your late 30s or early 40s, you might being going into peri-menopause. Just one of many possibilities. I went through premature menopause myself starting at age 29, most likely due to auto-immune disease. My periods became irregular and very light, and I became 'dry' and sensitive; itchiness and irritation became worse as the years went by. Eventually sex became very painful (to say the least). By the time I saw a doctor and found out what was happening, I was shocked...I had no idea what was happening. Anyways, you may be better off consulting your GYN for a diagnosis and proper treatment to alleviate your symptoms. (((HUGS))) --Cee-- , " Sotirakos, Erika T. Guest guest
At age 40, I'd say hormone imbalance, due to the pills and peri-menopause. You might want to consider going off the pill and looking for a more permanent alternative to birth control. I went off the pill at 40, and it was the best thing I ever did. Many symptoms which had been plaguing me for years went away. I'd also highly suggest finding someone to test your hormones. I'd bet anything your hormones are out of balance. Don't let anyone prescrible more synthetic hormones, which are very bad for you. Natural hormones can help alleive a lot of your symptoms. I don't think women need any special cleaning either. I think it might make you worse-even more sensitive, and have more infections. And if you consume any sugar in your diet, that contributes to yeast infections too. Guest guest
Erika, My husband is the one who usually reads the group mail, but asked me if I could help. I am 45 and have had the problems for several years of not being able to use feminine products. In my experience my cycles are very light also. When I use feminine products they dry me out too much, causing alot of tenderness & irritation that makes the area feel raw. I switched over to cloth pads and had immediate relief. I have been using cloth for nearly 3 yrs now without any more problems. To avoid any irritation when using cloth, be sure that you launder them in a very mild (dye & fragrance free) soap and use a bit of white vinegar in the rinse instead of fabric softeners. Fabric softeners can cause irritation in some people and the white vinegar also will remove any soap residue left on the fabric. If you have any other questions about using cloth, feel free to contact me off-list at this email address & my husband will make sure that I get the message
