Dear Lisa,

Namaste.

Thank you for your email.

Medical Background:

Also called Pediculus humanus capitis

(peh-DICK-you-lus HUE-man-us CAP-ih-TUS), head lice

are parasitic insects found on the heads of people.

Having head lice is very common.

Anyone who comes in close contact with someone who

already has head lice, contaminated clothing, and

other belongings. Preschool and elementary-age

children, 3-10, and their families

are infested most often. Girls get head lice more

often than boys, women more than men. In the United

States, African-Americans rarely get head lice.

There are three forms of lice: the nit, the nymph, and

the adult.

Nit: Nits are head lice eggs. They are hard to see and

are often confused for dandruff or hair spray

droplets. Nits are found firmly attached to the hair

shaft. They are oval and usually yellow

to white. Nits take about 1 week to hatch.

Nymph: The nit hatches into a baby louse called a

nymph. It looks like an adult head louse, but is

smaller. Nymphs mature into adults about 7 days after

hatching. To live, the nymph must

feed on blood.

Adult: The adult louse is about the size of a sesame

seed, has six legs, and is tan to greyish-white. In

persons with dark hair, the adult louse will look

darker. Females lay nits; they are usually

larger than males. Adult lice can live up to 30 days

on a person's head. To live, adult lice need to feed

on blood. If the louse falls off a person, it dies

within 2 days.

Head lice are commonly found on the scalp behind the

ears and near the neckline at the back of the neck.

Head lice hold on to hair with hook-like claws found

at the end of each of their six legs. Head lice are

rarely found on the body, eyelashes, or eyebrows.

Signs and symptoms of head lice infestation:

-Tickling feeling of something moving in the hair.

-Itching, caused by the an allergic reaction to the

bites.

-Irritability.

-Sores on the head caused by scratching. These sores

can sometimes become infected.

Common ways of contracting head lice infestation:

-By contact with an already infested person. Contact

is common during play at school and at home (slumber

parties, sports activities, at camp, on a playground).

-By wearing infested clothing, such as hats, scarves,

coats, sports uniforms, or hair ribbons.

-By using infested combs, brushes, or towels.

-By lying on a bed, couch, pillow, carpet, or stuffed

animal that has recently been in contact with an

infested person.

Since the problem is an external parasitic insect

infestation, the pranic healing protocol given here is

for the treatment and prevention of secondary

infections on the breaks on the scalp and skin due to

scratching of head lice bites. Actual removal of head

lice from the patient's head shall be done separately

through suggested natural treatment.

I. Pranic Healing: Apply after anti-head lice

treatment.

1. Invoke.

2. Localized sweeping on the scalp and the affected

area of skin of the neck alternately with LWG and LWV.

3. Energize the scalp and affected areas on the skin

of the neck with LWG, LWB and more of ordinary LWV.

4. Stabilize and release projected energy. Give

thanks.

5. Repeat treatment once per day for as long as

needed.

II. Some suggested home remedies for removal of head

lice infestation:

A. 1 cup of neem leaves pulp,

( to make into pulp, use a food processor or use a

mortar and pestle to pound fresh neem leaves )

1/4 cup powdered turmeric

Mix the ingredients together well to make a paste.

Rub the paste on the scalp, hair and neck. Leave the

paste to dry on the scalp, hair and neck ( about 1 to

1.5 hours ).

If patient's hair is long, more paste may be needed to

cover the entire area. Proportion for paste is 4

parts neem leaves pulp to 1 part powdered turmeric.

OR

B. 20 drops tea tree essential oil

1 cup vegetable oil or 1 liter tap water

Put ingredients in a bottle with a well-fitting cap or

cover. Shake to mix well. Carefully pour mixture on

the hair. Gently massage into hair and scalp to

saturate the hair and scalp with the mixture. Wrap to

cover entire head and hair with a large towel. Leave

head wrapped for 30 to 60 minutes.

After application of A or B, rinse hair and scalp

well with luke warm water. Shampoo hair. Rinse.

Towel dry. Remove remaining dead lice and nits using

a very fine-toothed comb.

Patient's clothes, comb, towel, bedsheets, pillow

cases and pillows must all be washed in boiling water

or sterilized thoroughly after each use during

treatment period.

Repeat treatment once per day for as long as needed.

Complete extermination of adult, nymph parasites and

nits generally takes 3 to 15 days of daily application

and treatment.

The patient is expected to observe regular proper

personal hygene and avoid re infestation. Avoid

contact with infested persons, those persons' personal

belongings and other items that have been in contact

with infested persons or animals.

Love,

Marilette
