Guest guest
Greetings All! And Happy Spring! A friend of mine went to visit John of God in Brazil and brought me back a lovely amethyst geode. It's quite stunning EXCEPT that the outside was painted white! I've since heard that dealers are now doing this type of thing with geode's. Personally, I can't imagine why anyone would want to do that but it is what it is. Has anyone had any experience with a painted geode? I still feel the crytals' power and am certain there's nothing I can do about the paint - unless you know something i don't Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this kind of thing. Thank you much for all your help and insight. Love, Light and Gratitude, Jacquie

Are you referring to the ball shaped geodes or the pointed cave sort (stalagtite/mite) form? A more horrible and shady thing some dealers are doing with some geodes (more in the line of the stalagtite/mite variety that when cut in half show an amethyst cave) is they are adding concrete to the exteriors. These pieces are typically sold by the pound and adding the concrete would garner a higher price because they now weigh more. I could see them painting this sort of piece to hide what they had done. A very reputable crystal vendor in New Zealand Anthony Brailsford of Majestic Quartz http://www.majestic-quartz.com/ posted this information to his website a few months back. He said he will not be getting these pieces anymore until this practice is stopped. He is a very good vendor to work with. He is the care giver/keeper of an Earth Keeper crystal he calls " Mother " . If you request it when purchasing a crystal from him, he will bury it in the sand surrounding Mother for a couple/few days and let her charge the crystal(s). The energy is quite different and special in those crystals, very soft and loving. Talk about a chain reaction of ugliness that would be for sellers to find this out and still pass it along to their customers. Or worse them to be aware and pass it on to the customer. It is a shame that some folks find the best way to make money is dishonestly. Blessings to your days. ReNau

This may be some kind of old folk magick thing but could have also been done for some reason to do with shipping or cataloging or to identify legally acquired stones. Tailmanic and spirit or totem stones are usually painted with a design , emblem or image which is evoked/ requested from/by the stone during meditation. I also vaugely recall encountering a tradition of painted stones being substituted for bread in funerary or fairy offerings. To make the geode more attractive to tourists, instead of bare rock. 2. In the local religions, white is considered a color of purity and/or reflection. They may have a little understanding of the power of the crystal and want to reflect that power back towards the user. I would guess it is probably a latex or lime based paint as enamel paint is too expensive. Try soaking the geode back in water for a couple of days and it may rub off easily. Good Luck and God Bless!
