Both can help a lot. All the best. Muriel , Debbie Bowes <flowerlady6 wrote: > > I also have suffered from panic attacks. They can change your life. Guest guest
I also suffer from anxiety/panic attacks, only mine comes out in different ways to normal panic attacks... my muscles kind of freeze up and cramp up, it's horribly painful and really embarrassing! I've had times when I've been too scared to go out of the house, and felt unable to walk from one end of the house to the other. The dilemma is whether to take pills to relieve the anxiety, whether that's pharmaceutical or herbal, or to attempt to deal with the root of the problem. I had a severe bout of these attacks when I decided to come off my antidepressants, because I was fed up of the side-effects from taking them (or forgetting to take them!) and didn't want to be popping pills all my life. After a while the anxiety came back full force, because while taking the pills I hadn't been dealing with the issues causing my anxiety... I'd just been throwing a nice fluffy blanket over them! I had to do something to deal with the anxiety immediately, I was desperate! I'd only been in my current relationship for just over a year and it was starting to break down Not surprisingly, as I was a mess. Determined not to just cover up my problems again though, I turned to herbal meds (St John's Wort) and went to see a cognitive behavioural therapist (all the rage, and absolutely fantastic!). Both *really* helped me. The St John's Wort kicked in for me in about a week's time. This helped me feel brighter and more in control. Then I started the therapy and this helped me deal with some of my issues. Both put me on the right track (they're not a cure-all, but they helped and that's the main thing!), so I well recommend herbal therapies *plus* cognitive therapy to start with. And then there are crystals... I think it's quite a long journey to get over deep-set anxiety like this, so I can't just recommend one crystal to help you. There seems to be a long train of crystals to help you through the stages from severe anxiety to accepting yourself and feeling altogether happy and confident being who you are. Some biggies for me are hematite for grounding that negative energy, rhodochrosite for comfort, and amethyst for getting in touch with your inner self / intution. There will be many others that help you, however, because there are many twists and turns to your 'recovery'. So just go with a crystal that draws you. Another herbal remedy that could be better for you than St John's Wort is Valerian. I switched from SJW to Valerian on the advice of my crystal healer, and it's been brilliant for me. I've heard that SJW is more for depression and Valerian more for anxiety, and this rings true after taking both (separately) for some time. I hope some of this helps. All best, and good luck in your journey! It's one of the most exciting, ironically enough ;o) Katy (UK) x On 07/05/2008, murielblackley2 <murielblackley2 wrote: > > Been there too. Katy , it sounds like the physical symptoms are prominant during your attacks , I tend to shake and sweat more and get light headed . .But my muscles can ache due to the tension in the body . Guest guest
Hi Diane, I was amazed how many people came forward with this too! Well, it helps us all feel better to know we're not alone So thanks for raising this. Glad you're feeling calmer too. Don't let that naughty voice in your head give you doubts! Listen to the nice voice in your head that tells you you are in control of your feelings ;o) Get some amethyst in to help strengthen the good voice. Meditating is an excellent therapy - I forgot to mention that!! Remember to ground yourself, and make sure you stay grounded throughout, though. Otherwise you'll just be floating around and escaping. So glad you're going to try the valerian. This alongside gentle persuasion out of the anxiety patterns - through therapy, meditations, general learning about yourself and anxiety - should set you on the right path Let us know how you get on! Guest guest
All the best with it all, but a slight note of caution on Valerian - I'm sure I read that it can at times act as a depressant if taken regularly for too long, and I think it was 3 weeks I saw, so check that out and take care.
