Guest guest
Reality show people are bombarded with an opposite set of values which are anyway coming from the same Macaulay's source ie western through the Print & Visual Media. Therefore, the moral values and cultural issues like theft unheard of, beggars unseen etc in ancient or medieval India cannot reach them nor they would like to boast of it. This consists of 10 % elites of the country who are in focus of the same TV circuit. Remaining 90% are running around for their essential requirements . Now a good part of them stand infected by the lowered moral values of the elites under TV scanner in Reality shows.. Copenhagen is over. Results were known. Rich have the theme " hum to dubenge sanam, tumko bhi le dubenge " . The present high level of consumerism will finish the resources and convert the globe into an unhealthy place not fit for life on the planet. " Present generation borrows the resources from the next generation " goes the sayuing but the present generation of money makers seem to have decided not to honour the second part of the saying, that is, it has to be returned back. In my view car symbolises the extreme of consumerism. If a society cannot stop manufacturing and marketing of cars the most visible example of unwanted species on this earth there is no hope of our healthy survival. Money making inhibits intellectual growth. So the present mode of Economic growth does not have space for intellectual growth. Society has to make compromises and consciously arrive at a balance vns    2009/12/20 Sunil <ksunilsingh Thanks for the pictures Dr. Sharma, the last one in particular. I don't know whether it is possible to convey this message to the reality show immersed people, particularly youth, of today's India. 185 years later, India has been transformed into one of the poorest nations on the planet. I don't have a doubt that the western civilization has a big role to play in this transformation. More important question for us, however, is: Where do we go from here? Do we become more and more demanding on nature by asking for more of everything (It is called economic growth) that we can get our hands at like in western democracies or do we make an effort to go back to our intellectual prowess and cultural values.  I hope we have responsible economic growth combined with a growth in our intellectual capital.Sunil5103865544 Dr.V.N.
