Guest guest
I am trying to figure out how to make and use body wraps and srubs, and how to use them. Does anyone have any information on where I can this. Thanks Margie
Guest guest
Marg, I work in a spa, so my definition and usage is spa oreinted. I will tackle the usage quesiton first. A scrub is an exfoliator, any item that is used to remove dead skin layers from the epidermal layer. One simple recipe to make yourself which we use in our spa is to use dead sea salts and citrus essenital oil, we use one part salt to one part oil. You can use plain sea salt and a light seasame oil if that is what you have on hand. Use light effluarage movements(light stroking) in circualar pattern up toward the heart. In all exfoliation you will hear this always up toward the heart. One even more simple exfoliator would be using a natural hair body brush. A TRUE body brushing is used DRY b4 you bath and you brush upward on the body toward the heart. Some ppl will advise to start from the feet aond work your way up & some will say to start with the arms. I am partial to go with the feet first. Body wraps in my salon are used for either help in elimination and detoxifaction & /or skin softening & exfoiliation. There may be other reasons but that is the focus of the treatments I am used to. We have artic algea wraps (a detoxifying and rejuvinating wrap that pulls toxins out of the body and softens the skin), a dead sea mud (does the same thing only with dead sea mud), a Chinese Herbal wrap (that softens the skin and exfoliates), A celuite treatment(self explanitory- you could make your own with juniper berry-be careful though!), and finally a Parrafin wrap (to efoliate skin and soften). All of the above services start with an exfoliation, we typically either use the body brush or will use the sea salts & oil scrubs, rinse the body well, towel dry then proceede with the product of choice for the wrap. Then we will wrap the client in a plastic type wrap (home users could use a cheap plastic wrap, only don't wrap to tightly as to cut off circualtion!) then we wrap the clients in ace bandage if elimination is the target treatment, & /or solar blanket ending with a heated blanket, place soothing eye gel treatment and cool pads on eyes. At home users could use sliced cucumbers over an eye mask or rich eye cream, or even used cooled tea bags for a debuffing treatment or cooled chamamile tea bags over aloe vera gel. During this time it is nice to incorparate a nice soothing scalp massasage & /or facial massage. Just a light 10 minute massage with the lights low, soft music playing, and lavender oil in difusser or oil of choice-we then will step out of the room to allow 5-10 min for the client to just relax and enjoy the atmoshphere. As for making the body treatments yourself I dont' see why you couldn't get some dead sea mud or perhaps even bentanite or french green clay (use that sparingly and build up to it, can make you feel sick as it pulls toxins out to rapidly. Start with a foot bath, plus it can be drying to skin, maybe start with a body mask with a 1/2t of green clay or bentanite clay added?), maybe some essential oils and an emoilent mask. The exact body wrap recipes will be something better answered by Diane she always has all of these types of recipes-even google it. Hope this Helps! You could dip the gauze in a variety of muds, sugar scrubs, or exfolients and have a blast. I just might try it with some herbs and salts (dead sea salt, bath salt, sea salt). Oh, the possibilities! I have a thought for a sore muscle wrap: cayenne pepper and olive oil really help sore limbs, especially as a rub or in the tub, but in a wrap,it would be even better. Messy, yeah, but who cares? Half the fun is making it ) Robin
