I had these symptoms twice; first it was a calcium deposit on my upper arm

bone, looked like a Hershey's' kisses candy in the x-ray, Dr, scraped it off

with a needle full of cortisone. I heard it crunch- crunch crunch. No

further problem. He called it a baseball arm.

Next time it was tendonitis in the shoulder, took aspirin that time.

Do you take MSM?

Good luck.

I have been experiencing extreme shoulder and right upper back pain for

but instead of getting better, it's getting worse. I started

I find my body responds well when in crisis to 3 grams of MSM and 1.5

grams of C every three to four hours plus 400 mg Magnesium and B complex three

to

four times a day. It usually takes several days to fully kick in and then I

slowly reduced the frequency of dosing until I attain a level of comfort.

What was on the xray? That's the place to start.

What was the dx from the Chiro? Unfortunately, many Chiros are more

into the religion of Chiropractic than actual diagnostic skills. The

" remove the subluxation of the spine and the healing power of the body

will flow from Above Down, Inside Out " belief of the old guard is still

hanging around making the rest of us look like quacks.

Acupuncture is generally temporary for pain relief but if the problem

is myofascitis or " Trigger Points " someone who does Dragon Needling or

Dry Needling will give you a lot of relief.

Start with a proper diagnosis though. If you don't know what is wrong

then you're not going to know what is going to make you right.

Liz,

I had pain in my right upper shoulder for well over a year. Mine was

particularly bad when I reached upper for anything. I could not sit in a car

and reach to get the seat belt but rather had to completely turn my body to get

it and bring forward to latch. My pain was usually worse in the morning, I

figured it possibly was being caused by sleep position as it seemed to be worse

in the morning when I woke, combined with old age.

Anyway, the ergonomist at work was trying a pilot test of something to help

avoid carpal tunnel syndrome. It basically was a very simple stretch - holding a

wand (equipvalent to about an 8 " stick) with both hands at the waist. Then you

fold both hands up to your chest, curl them out and straight upward and

stretched to whatever degree you could. You do it every hour on the hour for 40

seconds. In our case there was a computer clock that went off to remind us to

stretch.

My pain was completely gone within two weeks. I now have full range of reach,

even for a seat belt. It was so simple and easy. You might consider looking

for some simple stretches. Athletes always do them and they are recommended

before rigorous workouts so I am sure you can find them easily on the web, on

video, or in exercise/stretching books.

I too had terrible right shoulder pain, worsened, unable to lift, use...

became frozen shoulder. DMSO provided temporary relief. Doc unable to

pinpoint problem. Based on personal investigation about calcium

deposits, I initiated treatment with Vit K. That alone stopped the

problem, but I then began better balanced supplementation of calcium,

magnesium, minerals. The full treatment seems to keep the problem from

coming back. Physical Therapy did not fix the problem for me. Vit K

is a worthy pursuit to see whether your shoulder responds (to see if

issue is Calcium deposits)... cheap. In plant form, Vit K is non-toxic:

Liz,

I just got a cortisone shot in my left shoulder. For the first day it hurt

more than ever, then got better. I¹m a little worried because I heard

cortisone shots are bad for you. Anyway, I finally got desperate enough to

try it. Some people say their pain goes away forever with one shot. I¹ll

keep you posted . . .

Background: 35 years ago (at the age of 21) I broke the neck of my humerus.

Broken blood vessels may have caused bone to die, and the bone may have

eventually healed in a deformed manner. This is a type of osteonecrosis. I

grew to accept having limited motion in this shoulder, was able to swim and

lift weights, and had no pain. Then about 6 years ago it started hurting

and didn¹t stop for a year. Lots of misery and confusion followed,

especially about pain causing more pain.

Eventually, after a period of easing back a lot to let the shoulder ³calm

down,² I found that lifting weights very carefully seemed to help. Also, I

have found correct posture when you¹re doing anything is extremely

important. I haven¹t been very good about sticking to the program, however.

My range of motion has decreased a lot, which only increases the difficulty

of using correct posture. This last bout of pain began when I started a new

nurse¹s aide job -- ignoring pain and pushing myself to impress my bosses.

MRI says ³you have fractured your humerus in the past and it has some

deformity and severe arthritis now. In addition there is bursitis and

tendonitis and a small tear in part of your rotator cuff.² The Orthopedic

who gave me the shot discounted the rotator cuff tear, saying lots of people

with arthritis have rotator cuff tears. He¹s from India, and hard to talk

to, but I¹ve heard he¹s good.
