In patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (IDCM), mean mercury (Hg) concentration was 22,000 times. . .higher than in controls. This significant increase in trace elements may affect mitochondrial activity and myocardial metabolism and worsen cellular function. " Their comment: " This article has significant impl ications and gives the therapeutic rationale for chelation therapy in patients with IDCM. . . " The study was done at the Dept. of Cardiology, Catholic Univ., . It also implies the importance of eliminating the use of mercury in dental care.
