Dan: I had asked about the niacin because I have a lingering suspicion that

it is good for quite a number of essential things. I originally began taking

it about 1986, and have been off and on since. The dosage I use is 300-500mg

tid. It is highly effective against cholesteral. But I had read that it had

been used as one treatment for schizophrenia many years ago. I had asked a

local psychiatrist about this, and he recalled having prescribed it years

ago. Accidentally, I found that as you say, it helps me have a clear mind,

relax, have more energy. I can most definitively tell when I am not taking

it for a length of time, as mood problems and worries seem to arrive again.

And it is quite cheap.

Yes, I do...and the more I look into it, the more I take! It helps

sleep, irritability, depression, joint health and more.

It even improves your sense of humor! No kiddin!

In the niacin form of B3, which can cause skin flushing at higher

doses, no " toxic " level has been found. The RDA is 18mgs, and in the

Hoffer studies doses of 5000mgs to 30,000mgs were administered daily

for years to schizophrenics, with no adverse affects.

The " niacinamide " form doesn't have the same vascular dialation

effects. I take 1 or 2gms per day, usually...but on occasion take as

many as 6gms, with not noticable side effects, other than the ones

I'm looking for!

I post on many " conventional " forums that focus on

bipolar/adhd/depression/anxiety issues, and in reading the various

posts am struck by a fundamental difference in my program,

and " conventional " drugs based programs. When " they " have a

troublesome symptom, they worry about taking too much of whatever

drug they are on, they call their docs in the middle of the night,

they check into the emergency room to get more or different drugs,

etc.

When I have a symptom that I want to address...I go to my supplements

and choose whatever I want, with no fear of a toxic reaction. I don't

take real " mega-doses " of anything...and even if I did take 10

taurine and 10 B3's and 5 tyroptophans and 3 B6's...I wouldn't get

sick. My pee would be florescent for a day, but that's about it.

So much to learn!

Dan
