Guest guest
Why Whole-Body Scans Are a Bad Idea HealthFacts newsletter has a lot to say on this. This paragraph stands out: CT scans involve much higher doses of radiation than standard x-ray, because they provide three-dimensional, multi-ple " slices " of the body. A CT chest scan, for example, involves about 400 times the radiation dose of a simple chest x-ray. A CT scan of the abdomen or pelvis involves a radiation dose 500 times that of a chest x-ray. ....these dose estimates [were] based on surveys of diagnostic medical tests conducted at hundreds of hospitals in the 1990s. *subscription details: 212-674-7105 Radio & TV pitches for these scans are common. HealthFacts makes a strong case against them " for 2 reasons: false alarms and too much radiation.... " The ads make it seem benign, but we need to be aware of their 'spin' doctors, who know little about health.
