CARROT JUICE/BETA CAROTENE/LUNG CANCER

First I'm new to the group and have been juicing faithfully for about

15 years. Today, I heard on TV once again, something about Beta

Carotene contributing to the growth of lung cancer cells. I do NOT

take any beta carotene suppliments, but do juice a good deal of

carrots and have been for years. As an X smoker, I think I'm doing

myself good by juicing, now worrying I could be contributing to " The

Problem " Perhaps this information is directed at suppliments and NOT

carrot juice. I'm clueless, but sure someone in the group has heard

about all this. Would appreciate any info anyone might

have...Thanks !!

Critics of alternative treatment modalities for cancer complain

about the lack of credible research and double blind studies, etc.

 

Fundamentally cancer is a weakening of the immune system that causes

the `mutation' of cells that eventually colonize

destroy and displace healthy tissues,eventually leading to death.

 

We all have come to realize that certain vitamins, namely vitamins

A, C, D and K, folic acid, beta-carotene and selenium as well as the

B complex group are all beneficial in inhibiting carcinogenesis.

In addition,the use of fiber from whole grains and citrus pectin

have many beneficial effects in inhibiting and preventing cancer.

 

Food and juices that are rich in beta-carotene boost `immune'

function.

The immune system involves many complex functions that originate

with digestion. Foods, juices and their proper assimilation is

fundamental to an overall `strengthening' of our immune systems.

 

Phytochemicals found in juices `offset' cancer in a variety of ways!

First of all, they stimulate the vital process of `detoxification'

in the

body that eliminate carcinogenic factors;

second, they powerfully stimulate and strengthen the body's immune

system which help it to

'inactivate', fight and `destroy' cancer cells and thirdly, many

foods and herbs have free radical `scavenging' properties.

 

There are literally hundreds of foods and herbs that are known to

have `therapeutic' value in these areas.

 

Less than 1% of them have been `researched'.

 

Foods that are high in beta-carotene include yellow-orange

vegetables such as carrots, yams,squash, pumpkin, cayenne pepper and

`Carotenoids' other than beta-carotene, which include canthaxanthin,

Donny Yance AHG, offer even greater " anti-carcinogenic " effects than

beta-carotene.

Yance also states that `carotenoids' have `antioxidant' properties,

protecting phagocytes, lipids and the cells against

'oxidation',they " strengthen " the immune system, and increase the

production of

`interleukins' with their *special* effects that 'protect' against

ALL cancers.

 

The treatment of cancer with alternative methods, herbs and diet is

practically *ignored*. Critics of alternative treatment modalities

for cancer complain

about the lack of `credible' research and double blind studies, etc.

 

The problem is that there is little emphasis on prevention because

it involves a series of such radical considerations of our lifestyle,

food chain, water supply and environmental issues overall.

 

In our economic system, if there is no " profit motive " , a serious

focus on prevention would wreak havoc on the present economic status

quo,

and furthermore, there is no `incentive' for a highly vested

'pharmaceutica' company to conduct research on juices,foods or other

low-

tech cancer treatments like herbal medicine, so the ignorance

persists!!

 

Although I am not aware of the source of your information, if it

originates from the media, at first glance it would appear that this

is just another ploy of big pharma to 'discredit' just one more of

our precious supplements! There is absolutely no basis for these

remarks, whatsoever.

Beta carotene does not cause cancer! On the contrary, it tends to

heal the disease. Dr. Lorraine Day, trauma surgeon, received her

healing from stage three breast cancer with the use of seven fresh

squeezed glasses of carrot juice, which she ingested faithfully for

a period of eight months and within that time she managed to

completely reverse her breast cancer! Beta carotene comes to us
