[sSRI-Research] How To Detoxify After Stopping an SSRI

How To Detoxify:

http://www.prozactruth.com/detox.htm

Read information about how to taper off psychiatric medication, before a detox

program. Read here and then come back to this page for detox information.

If you have already tapered off your medication or are looking for how to detox

your body, follow these steps below. Do not use the method below if you are

still taking medication.

If you wonder why we stress doing a good home detox or cleanse program so

emphatically on this site, realize this - drugs are essentially man-made

chemicals and chemicals are poisons to the body. Many of the drugs we refer to

on this site leave toxins in the body. So a detox or cleanse can be extremely

helpful in purging the toxins that these meds leave behind.

The body cannot do well (especially repair itself easily) when it is fighting

poisons embedded in the organs, blood, and cellular tissue. And research further

indicates that these toxins can be restimulated later on and cause side effects

long after a person is no longer taking the drug. So it's no surprise that we

get so many complaints about 'zaps' and 'tics', 'twitches', headaches and a

variety of other physical discomforts from those of you who have long since

stopped taking these medications.

Realize that just because you quit taking the drug, it doesn't mean your body

has fully recovered from the effects. You must clean out poisons so the body can

function without having to fight off these toxins, and then give the body the

nutritional building blocks it needs to repair itself.

It has been known for many years that the food we eat, medications we take,

pollutants in our everyday environment remain lodged in our body tissue, our

muscles, our cells and several of our major organs.

Pfizer admits that 40-45% of Zoloft will be metabolized in the liver and removed

via the intestines. Of this amount, 12-14% of the Zoloft (sertraline) will not

even be broken down in the body. " Zoloft is extensively metabolized by the

liver. " (source - Zoloft Premarketing Clinical Trials)

Prozac, Luvox and Paxil are extensively metabolized in the liver. Clinical

trials show 64% of the Paxil ingested will be eliminated through the kidneys and

36% will be eliminated in the feces.

" Until recently, the changes wrought in brain cells by central nervous system

drugs presumed to leave the cells intact and functioning, albeit in an altered

way. However, in recent years, a much more ominous possibility has emerged:

neurotoxicity, that is the possibility that some central nervous system drugs

are toxic to the brain, damaging or destroying critical parts of the brain

cells. " (1)

After charting thousands of people experiencing withdrawal from an SSRI, there

was one puzzling phenomenon that took place time and again. Someone could

finally reach a point where the withdrawal side effects of the SSRI quit or

lessened to a great degree, and then the side effects or new side effects, would

return with no apparent reason. Just when life was getting back to normal.

Pharmaceutical companies may be correct in one statement they make regarding

withdrawal side effects. The drug may not stay in your system (blood plasma)

beyond a specific time period. But because the liver cleans the blood, where are

the toxins going to be deposited?

An example is Paxil. SmithKline insists there is no withdrawal from Paxil

because it does not stay in your system after you quit taking it. Tell that to

someone that has used Paxil!

The residual of the SSRI is still in your body and can be released back into

your systems either by natural occurrences, stress, strain, or by exercise. When

the residue of the SSRI gets back into your blood system, it may have the same

effects as when you were using the medication. This can take place over and over

as the residue of the SSRI becomes dislodged and then enters your blood system.

As your body removes the residue, you still might experience the withdrawal

symptoms again.

What is the Solution?

Any organ in your body that has had blood containing these drugs circulated

through it has the potential to absorb at least some of the toxins. Until these

residual toxins are removed, your body will not be able to fully utilize

vitamins and other nutrients to regain and rebuild your health.

Let's face it, your body has a lot to do with the health of your mind. One

common side effect of SSRI's is " trouble sleeping. " Not a big deal if it is only

for one or two nights but when it turns into " trouble sleeping " every night for

weeks or months on end, it does start to effect your mental health.
