An Important Ingredient for Heart-Healthy Foods

Almonds are good for you. When you add almonds as an ingredient, you are making

the product healthier. Blue Diamond almonds contain protein, vitamins and

minerals that are difficult to find in most processes foods.

Almonds and other nuts have been shown to protect against heart disease in

numerous large population studies.

About 92% of the fat in almonds is unsaturated fat (the good fat).

Almonds have no cholesterol. When you consume a diet high in monounsaturated fat

(found in almonds), it has been shown that Total Cholesterol and the

LDL-Cholesterol (bad cholesterol) levels are significantly reduced.

A one-ounce serving of almonds contains 35% of the Daily Recommended Intake for

Vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant. Recent studies suggest that Vitamin E helps

protect against cardiovascular disease, the effects of aging, and may reduce the

risk of Alzheimer’s disease.

Almond skins contain phytochemicals such as flavonoids and anthocyanins

(including quercetin, kaempferol, naringenin and catechin). These compounds

protect you from disease and oxidative stress. Almonds are a great source of

these powerful antioxidants, which team up with the Vitamin E to provide even

extra protection.

Almonds are a good source for calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium. They

are important to help prevent osteoporosis and to build strong bones.
