Guest guest
I had a major build up of ear wax due to sinus just this past fall. It drove me crazy for a whole week, and it even completely closed off hearing in my right ear (the left ear didn't have the build up). I was trying everything and nothing was working--warm olive oil, hydrogen peroxide. I even went down to buy an ear wax remover kit from the store, when I read the directions on the box--it had hydrogen peroxide in it as the active ingredient AND it said to tilt the head over and LEAVE the peroxide in for up to 5 minutes or more, up to 4 times a day for up to 4 days. I had been putting the peroxide in but only leaving it for about 2 minutes, and only twice a day. I went back home without buying the kit and started putting in hydrogen peroxide (the 3% store type) in my ear and leaving it in for 5 minutes. This constituted lying down or sitting far enough side-ways so that the liquid didn't run out and my neck didn't crink. Then when the time was up I used an ear bulb filled with warm water to squirt in my ear and flush out the wax. When I started leaving the h2o2 in for the 5 minutes tiny particles of wax started coming out at the flush. So then I'd immediately do another " soak " with h2o2 for 5 minutes, flush again. Then later in the day I'd repeat this process. I did this process 3 times a day and each time there'd be tiny particles of wax come out. Finally on the evening of the second day of this process all the wax came out and the ear immediately opened up and I could hear perfectly. So the trick is just take your time and give the product time to work. Perhaps the warm olive oil would have worked if I had left it in for 5 minutes each time--as oil will dissolve another oil, which is what ear wax is. But I like the h2o2 myself. I guess because it bubbles I think it's doing something. :-) I have read where you are NOT suppose to use hydrogen peroxide if there is a chance of your ear drum being punctured though. But then I also read where this is kind of a rare situation so not to worry too much about the h2o2 hurting your ear drum.
