Guest guest
a couple drops of rubbing alcohol every day for a week or so works. Only use a couple drops and it works good because it ends up evaporating and not staying in the ear. It is also good in people for swim ear. Guest guest
50% rubbing alcohol 50% vinegar. Lay the dog on its side, fill the ear canal with the mixture, rub it in for a few near the base of the ear then wipe the ear out with a paper towel.. do this either outside or in the bathroom because they will shake out the rest of the mixture! Guest guest
Before treating your dog for ear mites, be certain the issue he or she is having has been properly diagnosed as ear mites. As the following detailed article explains, not all ear problems with dogs are necessarily caused by ear mites: http://www.workingdogs.com/doc0079.htm As he says, " treatment without proper examination is strictly guessing. " I really couldn't find anything on ear mite treatment that wasn't chemically based (ie required to get from a vet). What I found in my research is that the symptoms of scratching at the ears, etc. is often misdiagnosed as earmites (by pet owners) and using the wrong treatment can cause more pain for your pet than necessary, because you're exposing what is actually an ear infection (or other ailment) to harmful chemicals that would be safe on normal skin, but painful on inflamed skin. Honestly, in this situation, I would take your dog to the professional vet and have them determine what is actually going on. To do otherwise could cause more pain and suffering to your animal. If it turns out to be ear mites, be sure all other animals in your household are treated as well (because they are contagious) and be certain to get instructions from your vet as to how to prevent such things in the future. Using preventive maintenance after he/she is healed will be much more natural and pain-free than having to keep trying home remedies. Good luck, and best wishes to you and your pooch. Guest guest
I found a ear drop formula at my health food store that worked well. It had grapefruit seed oil, and some other ingredients. Used it a couple times/day and all went well. I also used a ear wash prior to the ear formula to clean all the junk out. Guest guest
I actually had the 50/50 rubbing alcohol and vinegar prescribed to me.. and to my dog.. and to my daughter for a reason... well.. I had swimmers ear, my dog had ear mites, and my daughter had water on the ear/tons of earwax causing double ear infections. The alcohol helps dry up the bad moisture, and the vinegar helps balance out the proper chemicals in the ear. They said never do pure rubbing alcohol because it can dry up the ears too much. Balance is the key =o)
