Guest guest
Thank you all for your suggestions...I really appreciate it! Where can I find " pure " aloe vera lotion/gel, etc? I've checked at some stores (i.e. Wal-Mart) and they have aloe vera gel but with a bunch of additives. I'd want to purchase just a small amount.... Thanks again, Diane M. Guest guest
Hi Can you get hold of the actual plant? I think you can just break off part of leaf and apply direct. You will definately know there are no chemicals then. Guest guest
I had seen at Walmart of the stuff that you speak of. You know what I had done? I had gone out and purchased myself the actual plant. It has grown to be enormous now and it is essential for me because for some reason, I cannot go without burning myself on my wood stove! Guest guest
These plants are very easy to grow in pots if you don't live in a warm climate, where they are native to. They are also easy to propagate by just slicing a bigger plant apart, cutting down between the leaves and taking some of the root. The more water you give them (without over watering them :-) the bigger they will get, as they are a succulent. When you need one you can just break off a leaf, cut the spines off the sides--they aren't thorns exactly but can be pricky-- Then slice the leaf open and scoop out the gel inside. It's the gel part you want to use. You can also eat the gel if you have stomach problems, though you don't want the outside leaf part, as that can give you diarrhea. But you can buy pure liquid aloe gel by the gallon in some stores like Walmart or the health food store. I knew a guy that had stomach cancer and kept himself alive and without pain for quite a few years after the docs said he'd be dead, by drinking aloe Vera every day. We moved so I don't know how long he lived, but he said as long as he had a glass of the gel every day his stomach never hurt. Samala Renee ---- Can you get hold of the actual plant? Guest guest
Diane ----- Probably the best way is to grow your own. Very easy to grow, need little water. Just cut a leaf and peel the green off on side, then scrape the gel out with spoon and run the scrapings through the blender to make a smooth liquid. Gel keeps well in fridge in a small jar. I have put the gel in the blender with instant oatmeal to make a thicker lotion like concoction. You could experiment with yogurt also. Call nurseries near you to locate a plant. Or email me private with Alternative Answers in subject and I can mail you a small plant or two with instructions. I have lots of plants and I make up pots all the time to give away, they spread to make new little plants. Aloe is God's gift for burns and wrinkles too!
