Guest guest
Hi, It's only been in the past two years that I have really started using natural ways to take care of my health. I suffer from allergies, asthma ezcema and the side effects from years and years of steroids. Recently I was able to avoid a bad sinus infection with the following. I did start within a few days of symtoms though. First and always - Drink lots of 'clean' water - it thins the mucus and help to flush out the toxins. I also drink lots of natural fruit juices. This gives more fluids and vitamins. Second - Use a neti pot to wash out the nasal area. Do be very careful with an infection not to let the salt water get into your sinuses or at any other time. During my flare up I would rinse several times a day for shorter periods since bending over caused the pressure to build up and ache. Normally I use the pot twice a day. There are several types of pots available. I love and recommend the metal pot. I only found it at a website called yogaandhealth or healthandyoga. They have a great CD rom available to get someone started. There's also lots of info on the web. Third - Use Eucalyptus, cedarwood and lavender essential oils. I was able to find a combination called Breathe Easy?. When my sinuses were at the worst, I would get a bowl of steaming water add a couple of drops of oil. Then hold my head over the bowl with a towel covering my head to hold the steam in. This will help to release the mucus in sinuses and lungs. When the sinuses were better I would simply put a couple of drops on a cotton ball and keep handy to sniff. Unfortunately I don't have any suggestions about clearing the acutal infection. I'm sure others in this group can help with that. Please let me know if you find something that helps. With lots of allergies I know how you feel. Guest guest
some things you may have in the kitchen to help: dry mustard, (if not regular mustard) Mix the dry mustard with any oil to make a paste and apply to flannel or any thick material and apply to chest and back. Hold in place with saran wrap.) Regular mustard just use as is. You need to apply to a small spot first to see if you get any reaction to this. You can leave this on at night if not sensitive to it. Mustard bath for the feet. Soak feet in a container with dry mustard or regular mustard. Make water as hot as you can stand it. Soak till water gets cold at least twice a day. thyme is excellent for congestion and you can use as tea. fresh herb is better but any will do. 1 teaspoon per cup. peppermint tea is excellent for congestion also, can combine with thyme for better taste. anise is also excellent for congestion. Make a tea with 1/8 tsp per cup if powdered. cinnamon mixed with honey -- about 1/8 tsp powdered with 1 tablespoon honey, cinnamon toast with honey -- just mix cinnamon, honey and butter for the toast. garlic raw and crushed can be eaten with honey also. 1 clove per tablespoon honey onion chopped raw and combined with honey, 1 tsp per 1 tablespoon, combine with the garlic if you like. horse radish, combine with mustard at about 1/8 tsp each to each tablespoon of honey. This excellent for draining the sinuses. cayenne pepper, 1/8 tsp per 1 tablespoon honey. Very hot baths with 2 cups Epsom Salts, or 2 cups cider vinegar or 1 cup sea salt will help to decongest also. Soak till water gets cool. Vicks Vapor Rub on chest and back, throat, bhind the ears and a little up the nose and a dab in the mouth. Hope this will help. keep warm, wear a hat to bed that pulls over the ears. Also a heating pad on lowest setting wrapped in a thick towel can be slept on over night positioned over the lungs in the back. Wear warm socks. Garlic crushed in oil can also be applied to the bottoms of feet under socks. Same with Vicks Vapor Rub. wash hands to the count of 1 thousand 20 often if out in public or if someone has a cold in the house. Keep hands away from the face. Peace, Thyme
