Garlic and essential oils dangerous for cats

Dear all

Unfortunately garlic and essential oils are a big no no for cats.

Garlic is part of the onion family and can cause hemolytic anemia. I

know that some commercial 'natural food' does contain small amounts

of garlic and some people do feed it in small amounts seemingly

without problem. However it can happen and therefore why take the

risk?

Vit B helps towards repelling fleas as well. I've also been told

that kelp helps. I add both of these to my cats' food and I did not

have a problem at all last summer (my first summer going it alone -

without using frontline). My female cat is two today (Happy Birthday

to Chasca!) and has never ever seen a flea treatment!

My male did possibly help a couple of fleas hitch a ride into one of

the houses he visits (who subsequently had a flea infestation, but

mostly because she's a fag ash lil who never vacuums; we had terrible

problems with this woman feeding my cat -and lying to me about it

when confronted- and letting him sleep on her bed all day, so she

kind of deserved the infestation) but we haven't had a single problem

with him ourselves. Both my cats are indoor/outdoor.

Essential oils are to be avoided with cats because they cannot

metabolize them and eliminate them, hence they back up in the system

and can cause serious toxicity and death. If you want to use

essential oils around the home and on your cats it is far safer to

use hydrosols. Hydrosols is the water from the steam that has passed

through the plant, so still has the qualities of the plant but

without the danger. Please see the following article.

It is unfortunate, for sure, that we can't use these two wonderful

and powerful healing systems on our cats, but having them alive is

preferable! :) I also know that this information is not well known

so please feel free to forward this email to anyone who has cats.

Unfortunately many holistic health texts and articles lump cats and

dogs together when discussing holistic health. However, they are

completely different species with vastly different tolerance levels

and needs, which really must be remembered.

Take care

Becky
