Guest guest
Hello, I'm new and I'm interested herbal medicine as an alternative to the psychiatric drugs I've been taking since I was 14 (I'm 20 now) for my Asperger's Syndrome. I've been on Risperdal since I was 14, and have been switching around on other medications over the years because after a while, I start needing a higher dosage for the same effect, but then have to go on a different, more powerful drug when I can't take any higher a dosage of the older one. Right now I'm also on Trazadone and Concerta. These drugs have been helpful for me in what I need them to do, but they have also been giving me added health problems. The Risperdal and Trazadone help me sleep at night by getting my over active brain to slow down with its thinking process and get drowsy, but the Risperdal has been causing my breasts to lactate, causing abnormalities in my blood, and causing my spleen to enlarge (its bigger than average, but still within a normal range), and on top of all that its causing me to suffer from sexual dysfuntion where I can't get aroused or orgasm when someone touches me intimately. The Concerta helps me deal with depression (my family life and love life have been pretty hard for me to deal with) and it also helps me concentrate in school. My body is now very dependant on these drugs to function, which I know by definition is addiction. When I don't take these pills, I suffer heavy withdrawl. I can't sleep at night at all, and during the day I can't concentrate on schoolwork because I'm too wired from lack of sleep and even if I did get enough sleep, I wouldn't be able to process learning things because I would be a bubble head (I have on a few occassions not taken my concerta, causing my bubble headedness). I also need to find an alternative to these drugs because I'm a Japanese major and plan on going to Japan for a year or so, and these drugs are illegal there since some of them can be turned into dangerous abusive substances(like speed). What type of herbal medicines should I take for insomnia, inability to concentrate, and depression? Beth
Guest guest
Whoa! Stop the train! This is like putting a band-aid on a gunshot wound. Herbal remedies are best used with a change in life style from what you are currently describing. It's not about replacing the " pill popping " mentality with a " herb popping " mentality. Doc should be able to help out on this one, but I just needed to clarify exactly how naturopathic medicine works. -Shelby Beth Heritage [beth_herit18] Thursday, March 20, 2003 7:53 PM herbal remedies [herbal remedies] herbal medicine and Asperger's Syndrome I also need to find an alternative to these drugs because I'm a Japanese major and plan on going to Japan for a year or so, and these drugs are illegal there since some of them can be turned into dangerous abusive substances(like speed).
