Guest guest
" My body is now very dependant on these drugs to function, which I know by definition is addiction. When I don't take these pills, I suffer heavy withdrawl. I can't sleep at night at all, and during the day I can't concentrate on schoolwork because I'm too wired from lack of sleep and even if I did get enough sleep, I wouldn't be able to process learning things because I would be a bubble head (I have on a few occassions not taken my concerta, causing my bubble headedness). I also need to find an alternative to these drugs because I'm a Japanese major and plan on going to Japan for a year or so, and these drugs are illegal there since some of them can be turned into dangerous abusive substances(like speed). What type of herbal medicines should I take for insomnia, inability to concentrate, and depression? " Congrats, Beth, on wanting to make the choice to try and wean yourself off some of your highly addictive drugs and to start to search for more natural solutions to help support living with Aspergers. My suggestion to you is to contact a naturopath or someone who practices Traditional in your area. Explain your situation, bring all of your medications, and any recent testing from your primary care physician for a consultation. I would also tell your primary care physician what you would like to do, and involve him or her in any information sharing that goes on. Because of the heavy concentration of medication you are taking, there needs to be open communication between your doctor, your naturopath and you. I must warn you, however, that there may not be an easy solution to your situation, and it will take a bit of work on everyone's part to see you safely through this. Whatever you do, DON " T STOP TAKING YOUR CURRENT MEDICATION UNTIL A CLEAR TREATMENT PLAN HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED. Anyone who wants to decrease amount of " chemical " medication they are taking HAS to be weaned off, and supervised for toxic reactions. I would also suggest that you educate yourself as much as possible regarding alternative treatments for Aspergers. There is a lot of information out there, and the more you know, the more comfortable you would be. There is no magic " pill " you can take, but I " m sure there are some things you can do that are less harmful to your body.
