Guest guest
In my experience, it pays to eat healthy foods. The drugs you take will have a certain affect on your body. I don't know anything about either heroin or methadone or the process of what you are going through ( i read william burroughs' " junky " as assigned reading back in college ;-) but that hardly counts as knowing anything about it ! ) I think it always pays to eat as healthy as you can under the circumstances. I try to be sure to get my omega oils. I try to be sure to get my enzymes. I avoid fried foods like chips and fries -- avoid foods that tear down the body rather than building it back up. I can't help you with your constipation and the specifics. My comment is only general, that if you are tearing down your body with drugs, you better be sure to keep building it back up. Find out what supplements will best address your person al problems, what kind of diet, etc. You are strong and you will make it. You're brave to speak up! Guest guest
Hi Sandy, Okay, um, touchy subject here but I know from personal experience that you absolutely CAN get off of heroin without methadone... and getting off of methadone is a much harder feat than getting off the heroin to begin with. So, your methadone dose is pretty low. Sounds like you're doing a methadone detox program if you're down to 30 mgs from 120?? So, that's good. Keep going with that. It's too bad you're already into the methadone for so long. Kicking heroin takes 7 days. Kicking methadone takes much longer as it stores itself up in your bone marrow and has a half life that heroin doesn't have. Anyway, detox off the meth as fast as you can. See if you can drop your dose down 5 mgs a week. Hold for a week when it gets painful and then start dropping it again. (Maybe you're already doing this.) There is no quick fix for addiction because addiction isn't, at root, a physical problem. I've got lots of my own opinions on ways to get and stay clean which I'll save for now. Feel free to email me privately if you want to talk more about this. For the constipation I'd suggest Doc's Intestinal Cleanse #1 formula. Should keep you regular until you're off the meth. Guest guest
Hi As a recovering addict<did I really admit that> for over 16 years, let me cue you in on one thing. TO begin with I don't know how long you have been taking the methedone or been off the heroin but IT WILL TAKE A LONG TIME to get over the "withdrawel" effects. My "drugs" of choice were codine and valium and it took along and I mean a long time to get over the side effects<especially the physical ones, lilke the constipation > . I can not and will not recommend total abstinance , I have no right to recommend that to anyone. But the only way may be to stop taking the substitue med<yes replacing one addicting med for another>. But PLEASE REMEMBER I have no right to suggest that without the advice of the person who prescribed that particular med. I had to stop cold turkey<and yes I realize they are not the same type of thing/med> and it was rough. I have never tried the heroin<personally felt no inclination to but again that was just me> If I am out of place by saying this , then please ignore. I can only speak for myself on this, and not for anyone else. I also am aware that I am "cross adicted" meaning I "choose " to a bstain from alchol<okay bad day for s pelling> due to the fact I would be just replacing one "drug" for another and I would have to go through the same balloney all over again. Lynne<donning flame retardent suit, just in case, as it has been a "rough" day for me because of a "situation " on another list, no one here fault> - Irene72380 herbal remedies Monday, March 24, 2003 2:18 PM [herbal remedies] really need help with addiction & constipation Hi, my name is Sandy. Irene (on this list) is my roommate and she has been teaching me about herbal remedies and i enjoy what i am learning. I am 25 years old and have been taking Methadone for a year now for heroin addiction. I don't know if any of you know anything about this.. but if you are addicted to heroin, there is really no way to get off of it without Methadone. I only tried heroin a few times never thinking i would get addicted so fast. i hate taking medication because of what it does to my body, that sounds funny since i tried heroin, but i have never been into drugs. The methadone is causing many problems.. the main big one is that it is making me so constipated that i cannot go for days.. sometimes up to a week. I get so backed up that when there is no room left and then when i eat, i get VERY VERY sick.. throwing up (cause it has no place to go), getting really hot and really cold, sweating and horrible nausea. When i finally CAN produce a bowel, my body seems to be freaking out with all of the symtoms i just described. I want to get off of this methadone right away, but i am now addicted to it, taking around 30mg a day (began on 120mg).I am hoping i can get some advice on this. I need to get off of the methadone and i need something for the constipation. I am really embarrassed that this has happened to me because i have always been so concerned with my health and i am now in a horrible state due to my own actions. Is there any type of remedy that could help with the addiction so i can be normal again?thank you,Sandy Federal Law requires that we warn you of the following: 1. Guest guest
Sandy, The book ClearBodyClearMind was mentioned a while back on this list - you should get it from your library and read it, as it talks about drugs and how to get off them. Guest guest
The constipation that some experience when taking opiates, whether it's methadone or codeine, comes from the relaxing of the smooth bowel muscle, which is supposed to move in a rhythmic fashion to push the feces along. When it doesn't, it allows the feces to stay in the bowel alot longer than it should and become very hard. This causes it to become backed up and cause constipation. Super hydration helps much. Also, a high colonic does wonders too, if you're into that. Makes you feel much better. I've had this problems for years, being on opiates and methadone for a long time. I drink alot of water and found the aloe vera juice remedy to be about the best way to get around this problem. IMHO of course. Guest guest
Aloe Vera works wonders for constipation and other stomach/bowel problems, burns, etc. My dear granny used it for almost everything, internal and external. I don’t buy the processed juice; I just break of a good sized “leaf”, skin one side down with a butter knife then eat the inner juice. The green outer skin is quite good for stomach ailments too- it will send you to do your business, but has a bit of a bitter taste. Aloe Vera (savila) it is the easiest plant in the world to grow-thrives on neglect, but prospers with a bit of sunlight and water. And once you get one growing well, it reproduces through its roots really quick. Within a year starting with one plant, you will have five to ten times that many.
