I think this sort of thing has to be handled on a case by case basis, though. If you can figure out which foods give YOU problems then you can work towards either eliminating these foods from this diet (on the basis that they are either not meant to be eaten by you because your ancestry doesn't allow for it or you simply shouldn't be eating those foods in your climate/temperate zone) or you can try to figure out if it's possible for you to develop a tolerance for these foods.

We have put vinegar in the beans before and sometimes this helps. My whole family gets bad gas from them so I assumed everyone did lol.

As for a certain food, there was the case of the eggplant. My mom made me it one night as I was wanting to try it after seeing it in a movie (eggplant parmesian). I ate it, didnt like it, but for some reason just looking at it made me nauseous. I ended up throwing up later just thinking about it. Ended up also staying home the next day from school, sick as H*ll to my stomach, because everytime I even thought of eggplant I wanted to hurl. Everyone else who ate it was fine. I think it really wasnt made for my body and I only took a smal bite. But it seemed my system was letting me know because everytime i even thought of it I got nauseated. Even a mild wave years later - ROFLMAO. That is the only food reaction I have had. Maybe an allergy to it?

So much for the benefits of eggplant for THIS diet!

Erin,

Maybe you actually had a stomach bug and it was just bad timing and now you have negative associations?

If you do any readings about basic macrobiotic theory, eggplants, tomatoes, potatoes and peppers, all members of the nightshade family, are not fit for human consumption. They contain a toxin called solanine which is also found in tobacco, a member of the same family. So according to those theories you are actually doing yourself a favour by not eating those foods.

I had not heard of this theory. It is interesting. Unfortunitely I enjoy the health benefits and taste of tomatoes potatoes and peppers! :)

As for the stomach flu, someone else had mentioned that before when I told them, but I really dont believe that is it. It was something with just the eggplant lol. As soon as I tasted it, even though the taste itself wasn't THAT bad, my stomach just rolled. My body hated it, lol. My feelings for it anyway. I am just curious if an allergy can present itself that way

yes, and if you study herbs you know that nightshade is a wonderful topical

anasthetic as long as you use it with wisdome and discression. I tend to throw

out the idea that whole groups of food are not edible. Just don't eat more than

you should of any given group.

If we should not eat peppers, then we would have to

disregard the Total Tonic. Not me!!! That stuff is a

life saver!
