I had been feeding it canned dog food as at the time i had 3 young children and worked a full time job and thought i,while saving time, was giving the little fellow the luxury rout. i took him to the vet to see why puny and he told me canned dog food would kill him and he gave me a recipe of what to feed him. he told me to make a beef stew with potatoes, carrots a bit of onion, garlic, no salt, well covered with water, and when it was almost done to add corn *meal* (not corn) to thicken it. I remembered that in 1945 i worked for a lawyer who had a Dalmation called Bacarti and that was what Bacarti was fed and he was a really healthy animal so i took the vet's advise and Friday got better and lived to a ripe old age. beef was a lot cheaper then <|8?( love.. granny lee
Guest guest
From what I understand, chocolate contains a substance (I forget the name) which, to a dog, is like a human consuming a LOT of caffeine. It gets so bad that their heart runs away and gives up. Raw onions can make a dogs intestines bleed, and I know that broccoli is bad for them too. I remember my vet telling me never to feed a dog a potato unless it was thoroughly cooked and only to use a very small amount of onion powder for taste. Never did say why though. His advice was because I was making my own dog food at the time and I was asking him what they could have and what was bad. There may be more, but I know these for sure. The only time they get veggies is when they eat an animal that already has veggies in it's stomach. An omnivore will eat both plant and animal food. Of course, this is a general description of animals in the wild. Our domestication of animals can and has altered a great many animals away from their natural diets. ===== John Ybarra We are free to evade the effort of thinking, to reject reason, but we are not free to avoid the penalty of the abyss we refuse to see. In nature, generally speaking, canines only get vetigable matter from the stomachs of their prey. And that is already partially digested. Domesticated animals are a different story. ===== John Ybarra We are free to evade the effort of thinking, to reject reason, but we are not free to avoid the penalty of the abyss we refuse to see.
