Guest guest
Hi folks! Well first it was sunburn, then a big honking blister on the ball of my foot...now it's a urinary tract infection. I am currently taking total tonic, echinacea plus, fresh garlic, kidney/bladder tea and tincture, cranberry capsules, vitamin C, horsetail capsules and over a gallon of water a day. It still ain't getting better. I think what I am taking is good but, I am not sure of the dosage or how often I should take any of this??? This started late Friday night. It is much worse at night and in the morning, then it starts feeling better during the day. Sometimes I feel a slight twinge in my back as if it's starting to travel up the old ureters. Don't want that to happen! Would appreciate any suggestions. Throbbing in Indiana... Stevie

This is what I did... I got unsweetened, 100% cranberry juice. Yes, it is nasty, but sweetened just doesn't work as fast...it's just that simple for me. At bedtime, straight from the bottle, I drink as much as my body will hold all at once, I don't sip this nasty stuff. It seems that the bladder/kidney's need to be really full all at once...but, that may be in my head...then, I hop into bed. Sometime during the night you will wake up and have to pee like a race horse, I go pee and then, right then I drink the rest of the cranberry juice in one shot, or as much as I can between breaths until it's gone. (I usually get a 32 oz. bottle (I think) and this does the trick.) Then, in the morning (hopefully, I usually went with only having to get up once during the night) you will have to pee really bad again. That next day, I drink nothing but distilled water, and again as much as I possibly can all during the day. That does it for me. EVERY once in a while, when I procrastinate because I don't like the taste of unsweetened cranberry juice, I will have to do this the next night...but, that's all I've had to do it. May not be something you want to try, but it's always worked for me...and, I've tried medicine, cranberry caps, just about everything I know of...and nothing works like this...and, when you hurt so bad you can't pee or hardly bend over...it's worth it to me, anyway. I have tried this in the day time, but can't seem to hold it as long...and this may be in my head also, but it just 'feels' like it needs to sit for a while and soak all that yucky stuff up (or kill it) that's causing the pain and discomfort. And, if you feel like you have to pee real bad and can't, a good hot bath helps a whole lot. Like I said, I used to have these things alot, but since I've cut way down on sugar and Pepsi, and I drink lots and lots of water...haven't seen the old beast. This may not be your problem of getting them, but it sure seems to keep them away from me. Angel All incoming and outgoing scanned with NAV for both our protection. Guest guest
Well, I used to get it at the grocery store (big one, little ones don't usually carry unsweetened), but the last time I bought it was at the local natural store. For things like this, I now buy organic. And, really it ain't that much more...maybe half a dollar. And, the organic tastes better (if unsweetened cranberry can do that) than grocery store. Guest guest
Does it matter if the cornsilk is browned on top... Guest guest
Hey Suzi, Corn silk is the same whether it is inside the corn husks or outside. When it is dried it is pretty much all brown from what I have seen. No it does not matter whether you use the outside or the inside. It all works the same. Hmmm, Ma' Nottmeier and Papa Doc.... Guest guest
Don, Not my cornsilk... it is dry but the part that was inside the husk is still "green" looking not "baked" looking... but as long as I can use either or both that is cool. Guest guest
If it is fresh cornsilk that you have, I would think it should be dried " carefully " ...But since the only kind I have used is storebought capsules, I wouldn't even pretend to know how or even IF it should be used fresh or dried...I am sure the capsule form is dried. (Logic)...but it does seem I have read where you could use it fresh...but not certain. Gaye Thans Gaye... that is kind of where my thinking was ... since not seeing the capsules.. this confirms it... Guest guest
It does not matter if the cornsilk is brown or green IF you are making a tea. If you are eating it raw, you want to eat it "green" = more enzymes and it tastes better. When making a tea, you are only interested in the biochemical properties of the silk which are there whether it is green or brown. One of the favorite tricks of Valorie and me, is to go into a healthfood store and talk to the produce manager and ask him if we can chuck his corn for him and keep the silk. They always look at us as if we have three heads, kinda smirk and say, "go ahead" while thinking we are nuts. We always look back at him as if he has three heads, kinda smirk, go ahead and do it, and walk outa th' store with a pound or three of awesome organic corn silk totally FREE of Charge. Great game!!! And even if some of the store bought commercial organic stuff is OK, and even though the capsules work to some degree, wait till you try some of the fresh stuff (brown or green = no difference really) right off the cob. Phew!!!!!!!! The stuff is awesome. As a matter of fact, go easy with it to begin with as it might turn on a major detox and you could be pissing flames if you're not careful ;o) LOL Love, Doc Ian "Doc" Shillington N.D.505-772-5889Dr.IanShillington - Suzanne herbal remedies Tuesday, July 22, 2003 7:57 AM Re: [herbal remedies] Third time's the charm...UTI question Does it matter if the cornsilk is browned on top...
