Guest guest
I made the original post to search for ideas to help my 12 year old Boxer. I do not believe he has arthritis - as I described before, he rarely acts like he has pain. Mostly the dog is losing control of his back end. Almost like a creeping sort of paralysis, but some times he has better control than at others. When he walks, he does not seem to be able to control the movement of his back legs. But when he is laying down, he can lift his leg to scratch, so he has some control still. He can still run after his ball, but he hops his back legs almost like a rabbit rather than use them to aid the running. This has happened gradually over about a year's time. Thoughts or ideas on this? Thank you. CheriB herbal remedies , Elizabeth@w... wrote: > I also was not sure who asked the original > post and for what type of dog. Guest guest
Dear Cheri, Poor guy ;-( I hear ya, and I do recall your original description and jumped to arthritis. Which means more than just pain. I have seen dogs who present exactly as you have described who actually respond well to both the addition of MSM to their food and a blend of essential oils like the ones I passed on. C also boosts the effectiveness of the MSM. It is helpful way beyond treating the symptom of pain. Even if he rarely " acts " like he is in pain...rarely is still indicating something. I don't *know* what's at the souce of the problem...but here are some suggestions: I would look at a raw biologically correct diet (BARF) for your dog to start. I just don't believe our pets can adapt well to the dead food we feed them without shortened lifespans and a variety of other problems. If you give your dog vaccinations I would rethink this strategy. I would have a chiropractor take a look to see if the symptoms are related to some type of degeneration. It's possible there has been some nerve damage. Is there any evidence of atrophy in the hind legs? How is the dog's weight? My chiro used to adjust my dog too. I also would look at acupuncture. That's me. Don't know how other's feel about these modalities on this list. I'd focus on a gradual shift to a raw organic diet. Add some vit e, flax oil and MSM. I really like the Missing Link formulas (a superfood Omega 2 whole food/herbal based supplement)- separate formulas for dogs, cats and people. Great stuff. Good luck!
