Guest guest
Hello, everyone. Usually I am a reader, not contributing much to the discussion (shame on me), I just love to learn more about natural herbs and natural ways. I have a family crisis that I really need some help with. My grandson is 11, a healthy muscular soccer player, football player, weighs 165, 5' 4" tall (his father is LARGE). When he sleeps, he breathes only thru his mouth, wakes up feeling not rested, heavy snorer. He is under the care of a really wonderful pediatrician, a really good doctor, a trustworthy doctor. The doctor said my grandson's adenoids are really big and may need to be removed. the doctor gave him nasal spray to try to help him breath. MY QUESTION IS: What kind of natural herbs and natural remedy can we try for my grandson to reduce the size of his adenoids? What kind of natural remedies can we try to help him breath while asleep? PLEASE...if you have a good remedy for our problems, share with us. I would appreciate if you could copy your answer to my email address also. Thanks, Renie
Guest guest
Hi Renie, I am going through this with my daughter who is 4. She started with her problem last November. I managed to get it partially corrected by Homeopathy, but I have taken her to a Homeopath in our area who I hope can get it fully corrected. She has had sinus plus enlarged even swollen tonsils/adenoids. I am not fully sure what started her problem, but it may be diet, hereditary, vaccinations or due to yeast from ear infections as a child. It may be a combination of all. I try and feed her best I can, but in her case it is difficult. I can't even get her to take a vitamin or total nutrition without giving me a hard time about it. I know that sounds crazy, but I've tried and no matter how stern I get with her, she still gives me problems. I'm sure it would help everyone to know how well your grandson eats, if he has had any antibiotics because yeast has been known to affect sinus. I would give him Total Tonic and Total Nutrition to begin with, that may help. Again, we need more background with his health and such. I believe (and you can correct me Elizabeth?), but peppermint or pine essential oils in a diffuser at night might be of help. I tried that for my daughter. Honestly, a constitutional Homeopathic remedy really works. I tried the Homeopathic remedy at the Health Food Store for Tonsillitis which helped with the snoring. Some Homeopaths do not recommend combination remedies but I tried it because I didn't know any better and needed some relief for my daughter. This was before I found any of the as well. At least it helped the snoring problem when sleeping at night. Her tonsils/adenoids are still enlarged, but she rests really well at night which is most important because of sleep apnea problems that could occur. The Homeopathic method was easiest for me because of my 4 yr old who can be hard to deal with when it comes to food/herbs and such. Someone here may be able to suggest things that an 11 yr old would be willing to take. Oh also Echinacea to build the immune system. My daughter would drink the tea, but with Echinacea you can only take it for so long before your body gets used to it and you have to stop. If you want more guidance regarding Homeopathy I can steer you to a few places, other than that maybe someone here has some advice. Guest guest
I'm glad to do a complimentary consultation if you like privately...I can also make general recommendations, but I prefer to hear the whole story and make suggestions from there. There are lot's of oils that can be used for improved respiration. I have many questions though in addition to health, diet etc...also allergens, environment, etc. A nebulizer style diffuser IS the best way to get the oils into the air. Only use a diffuser that does not heat the oils. There is further criteria too. I'm happy to make suggestions here for all to see as well...but they are inevitably more general. I always offer free advice and free consultations so anyone can contact me privately for support in terms of aromatherapy with no need to buy anything from me. The oils I would use depend on the application and the age as well as other health considerations. I must emphasize again a holistic- not symptomatic approach which for me begins by distinguishing the imbalance and eliminating the causes of it...then cleansing, and rebuilding along with natural treatments including diet and herbs/oils and supplements as needed only. Here is a wonderful and pleasant remedy that could be used right away; 3 TB Raw Cider Vinegar 1 TB Raw Honey 3 drops Organic Ginger essential oil 5 drops Organic Lemon essential oil Blend well and add on teaspoon of this mixture to a glass of warm water and gargle. Have your child gargle with this 2 x daily. Follow w/ a teaspoon of Rose Honey...which should be swallowed. Rose Honey is made by adding 3 drops of Organic Rose Otto to a pound of raw honey. Organic/wild petals can be added too if you like. Another great antimicrobial essential oils based gargle is: 1 cup sage or Thyme tea 1 TB raw organic apple cider vinegar 1 TB fresh lemon juice 1 TB Sage or Ginger infused honey 2 drops Organic Geranium essential oil 1 drop Lemon essential oil 1 drop Organic Ginger essential oil Blend and gargle warm 3x day Grapefruit seed extract is also helpful I would begin Echinacea and goldenseal as well. Doc's Echinachea is FANTASTIC!! Also his Total Nutrition is really just that- a fantastic supplement- great for rebuilding and supporting optimal health. Drink MUCH more fluids- WATER each hour awake all day and night and fresh squeezed juices and herbal teas- only. NO ARTIFICIAL ANYTHING. NO dairy... Garlic is great..Total Tonic would help...if he would take it..there are ways to take it that make it invisible though...even for a child. Drink lot's of master Cleanse Lemonade: 2 TB Fresh squeezed Organic Lemon Juice, 1-2 TB Grade B Maple Syrup, 10 oz PURE water, and 1/10 teaspoon Cayenne pepper (ground herb) . Mix and drink w/in 2 minutes and it will not be too hot. Ease into the amount of Cayenne. Start the day this way...and drink often. Zinc lozenges to suck on Aromatherapy compresses, throat sprays, diffused oils, etc are also very helpful. In General--For diffusion: For throat pain: Geranium, Lemon, Hyssop, Tea tree Free Breathing: Eucayptus, Lemon, Peppermint, Rosemary, Bergamot, Juniper, Lavender, Pine, & Cedarwood may be used HTH... Guest guest
Elizabeth, yes it is a steriod. It is Mometasone Furoate Monohydrate. His diet is what a normal 11 year old eats, hamburgers, pizzas and the likes. He has a tremendous appetite, as he is a big (not fat) child, he has always had a big appetite. For the past few weeks, he has cut out chips, sugars, and added lots of fruit and vegetables because he was 8 pounds overweight for his junior football team and he wanted to lose the extra pounds. The only medication that he takes is the nasal spray right now. Both he and his little sister (5) got their shots(? the ones required for school) a couple of weeks ago ((p.s. I really hated to see the kids get these shots but my daughter felt that her doctor knew best)). In the past, he was diagnosed with exercise induced asthma (not severe but he was on an inhaler for about a year). I don't think he is on this right now. Another of my daughters (age 40) died in 1999 due to doctors giving her wrong medicine in the hospital, so you see why I am privately very concerned, trying to not let this show to my daughter. I read your previous email and want to look up what the herbs do. I will be in touch. I thank you!! Renie herbal remedies , Elizabeth@w... wrote: > Is it a steroid? Guest guest
Hi I'm also normally just a reader but could not just let this one go. I don't know if this remedy will be applicable to you but it certainly assisted me and has come from the edge of the universe! I have suffered from sleep apnoea for a number of years since childhood.(I am now in my late 40's) and have always been a heavy snorer due to enlarged adenoids. Some years ago when it bothered my ex partner, I went to see an ENT surgeon who performed all the tests associated with allergies after examining me physically. He then recommended surgery on the throat and septum (nasal passage) which I refused as it was dangerous. After a liason with my extra-terrestrial associates they recommended having a tooth removed right at the back of the throat which no dentist on all my travels worldwide had ever envisaged that it would be a problem , and was certainly overlooked by the ENT surgeon. The result is the adenoids and tonsils are normalised and there is no more sleep apnoea!! If you find this info useful please feel highly priviliged where it came from!
