Guest guest
KidsHealth > Parents > Infections > Bacterial & Viral Infections > Rotavirus Rotavirus infection can cause gastroenteritis. It most often infects infants and young children, and in children ages 3 months to 2 years, rotavirus is one of the most common causes of diarrhea. In the United States, it leads to outbreaks of diarrhea during the winter months and is particularly a problem in child-care centers and children's hospitals. Almost all children have had a rotavirus infection by the time they are 3 years old. Rotavirus infections are responsible for approximately 3 million cases of diarrhea and 55,000 hospitalizations for diarrhea and dehydration in children under 5 years old each year in the United States. Although these infections cause relatively few deaths in the United States, diarrhea caused by rotavirus results in hundreds of thousands of deaths worldwide every year. This is especially true in developing countries, where nutrition and health care are not optimal. Signs and SymptomsChildren with a rotavirus infection have fever, nausea, and vomiting, which are often followed by abdominal cramps and frequent, watery diarrhea. Children who are infected may also have a cough and runny nose. As with all viruses, though, some rotavirus infections cause few or no symptoms, especially in adults. Sometimes the diarrhea that accompanies a rotavirus infection is so copious that it can quickly lead to dehydration. Signs of dehydration include: thirst, irritability, restlessness, lethargy, sunken eyes, a dry mouth and tongue, dry skin, fewer trips to the bathroom to urinate, and (in infants) a dry diaper for several hours. Guest guest
Thank you Kathy. I talked to my son and the baby is doing better. She is in Day Care, so I am sure that is where she picked it up. We are in Atlanta and they are in Delaware. so I became very concerned not being able to get to see her. Judy
Guest guest
Hello my daughter had this last year at age 18mths - not n day care but it is so persistent we think she got it from a little girl she was playing with in a cafe. I am glad your grandchild is doing better as my daughter was very very seriously ill - we very nearly lost her! I would say that the anti-biotics used are pretty strong so use a good pro-biotic afterwards.. My daughter recoveered very well though and is fine now. I would also give baby a really good long heal;ing period before any vaccines ( if baby is having them) Best wishes Deborah , " judy " <ramcd@m...> wrote: > > Thank you Kathy. Guest guest
Hi I have never posted here before but read daily. I only wanted to let you know that what is being done here is great and I applaud you all for it, as far as getting rid of a rotavirus or most any other virus for that matter I use oil of oregano bought from a health food store and I place it in a jell-cap that I buy from the same store.(otherwise you have to be one tough sun of a gun) Just three days ago my family and I got a bad case of food poisoning from potatoe salad and other than going to a doc. or toughing it out we used two tablespoons of Sweden Bitters followed next day with Oil of Oregano, these two " quick fixes " have worked for our familys now for years. I just don't know how you would get a young child to take either one of these. But if you ever get something like that try this, you won't be dissapointed. Guest guest
Thanks for the info Deborah, so glad you daughter is fine now. Taylor is 8 months, and I don't know what or when her next vaccines are due (that scares me in itself). When my son called a few hours ago I could hear her talking in the background, so I know she is feeling better. I have a two month old granddaughter and my son and daughter-in-law living her with us at the moment (they are moving into a home of their own this Saturday) Yea!! But I have decided to give this next year to Ashley and take care of her while her Mom is at work. Day care can wait. Guest guest
I just started taking oil of oregano for a few months now. It already comes in a gel cap. I take one a day. Only had one bout of sickness this winter. I can't even bring up the subject of natural remedies to my son. I am the only one in the family who takes it seriously. Sad isn't it. Guest guest
All I can say is try it and let us know! Oil of Oregano seems to be very potent.Even just rubbing it behind your ears is a good way to kill bugs internally, makes me think I am in a pizzaria. Guest guest
The sad part is that our med. Drs. are now only just beginning to realise that some of these remedys are working better than man made drugs, and with none to very little side effects, unless you couple them with prescription drugs at which point it gets dicey. Guest guest
You are right there. When I go to my doctor and mention the supplements I take, he hardly acknowledges it. He says "So you are going to try to control your cholesterol with diet then?' - Reg Kreil Wednesday, March 09, 2005 12:27 PM Re: roda virus The sad part is that our med.
