Guest guest
I am new to this list. In reading the posts here, I wonder: What IS safe to eat? Can anyone tell me? Jacquie
Guest guest
Food is safe to eat. But what has been done to our food, is a scandal of monumental proportions. The " stuff " that you see mountains of, in your local supermarket, has been so completely polluted with every conceivable additive, chemical, and poison, has been so completely devitalized, processed and toyed with, that there's barely any " food " left in it. What I've discovered, is that the " alternative " view of all this, requires that you embark on a journey that requires that you look into every food you eat, to see what has been done to it by the profiteers, the chemical " scientists, " the junk food purveyors that manufacture make-believe foods by the ton, the " industrial " farmers, etc. You have to look, and learn, and you have to find out where you can find foods that are whole and un-denatured, organic and pure. I've found them, as a result of years of searching, and I continue to search, and find ways of improving my diet. It's a lifelong process. You don't have to do it. You can take shortcuts. But, as in all aspects of our lives, these shortcuts are obtained at a price. Guest guest
Hello, Jacquie! That appears to be a fair and intelligent question. Some people can get downright fanatical about what they allow to go into their mouths. Here is a quick list of what to eat and what to avoid: Eat wholesome foods that are fresh, unprocessed and preferably organically grown. They should include a wide variety of vegetables, fruits, berries, whole grains, seeds, nuts, legumes, herbs, spices, freshly pressed vegetable and fruit juices and good oils like olive and coconut. (I cannot always freshly press my fruit and vegetable juices, so if I buy juice, I at least buy what is labeled 100% juice. I know that is far inferior to freshly pressed juice.) Avoid processed foods,(which means avoiding 95% of what is available to eat at most grocery stores!), hydrogenated oils (like margarine, shortenings and foods containing them), sugar, animal fats, excess salt, preservatives and other chemicals. Personally, I do eat some animal protein, but at least 75 to 80% of my diet is non-animal. The animal protein I eat is wild-caught fish, (not farm-raised) organic chicken, beef and eggs. I was eating a lot of soy products, but have now read enough about the harm they can do that I am eating far less of them. I stopped drinking milk years ago, though I still eat some yoghurt and cottage cheese. It's not good to get fanatical about what is safe to eat. When I grocery shop for food, I spend the great majority of my time in the fresh produce section, where I do my best to buy organic, if possible. If I buy non-organic, I do my best to wash well things like tomatoes, grapes, apples and other foods well-known to be sprayed with pesticides. I stay away from the animal protein department, unless they sell organic eggs. I do NOT feel safe buying non-organic animal protein anymore. At some point, though, one must say to oneself, " I am selecting and eating my food the best I know how. I trust it is good enough to keep me healthy. " and get on with the rest of one's life. That is my two cents. Hope it helps some. Guest guest
Dear Group, Although I shop there and like the store, most of the food at Trader Joe's is not organic. See if you can find one of the new health oriented super markets that are springing up around the country. Also, no one can take on the job of directing your eating. It is going to require that you educate yourself. You can do that by reading books, reading the web sites that we have linked to from our links page etc. It will require an understanding of what you as an indiviual may need as opposed to someone else. It is like someone thinking of building a house and they ask well what material should I use. It will require more than a simple answer. It will require some self education on your part. We have nmany resources here to help you do that. Frank , " H & M Feld " <ariel@e...> wrote: > More and more we are seeing this void filled. Do you have a Trader Joes in > your area?
