Guest guest
I originally posted this to a board on " Alternative Healing From Prostate Cancer. " Many of the members there appear still to have one or even both feet in mainstream medicine, though. Here is the text in full, and my comments beneath: " American Urological Association Awards Highest Honor to Urology Chairman at Johns Hopkins 12 May 2004 Patrick C. Walsh, M.D., professor of urology and director of the Brady Urological Institute at Johns Hopkins, will receive the American Urological Association's highest honor, the Ramon Guiteras Award, for his " outstanding contributions to the art and science of urology. " Walsh will step down in July as director of the Brady Institute -- a post he has held since 1974 -- but will continue to see patients and perform surgeries full time at Johns Hopkins. Walsh is widely considered the world's foremost expert on prostate cancer. He is best known for his pioneering work in the development of the anatomic approach to radical prostatectomy, which involves nerve-sparing techniques that have reduced the possibility of impotence and incontinence. He is the author of two best-selling books for lay people, " The Prostate -- A Guide for Men and the Women Who Love Them, " and " Dr. Patrick Walsh's Guide to Surviving Prostate Cancer, " published by Warner Books in 2001. The award will be presented at the conference during the President's Dinner on Wednesday, May 12, 2004. To interview Walsh, call Trent Stockton at 410-955-8665. " ##################################################################### WHY? Why was Dr. Patrick Walsh " honored " ? And by whom was he honored? Why, by his own ignorant or secretive colleagues, of course. Ignorant or secretive about what? Why, about how to either heal from or to prevent prostate cancer, that's what! What has Dr. Patrick Walsh done in ANY way to help men NOT to develop prostate cancer in the first place? IF he is " the world's foremost expert on prostate cancer " why is he continuing to perform surgery full time? Why isn't he traveling the country giving lectures on HOW TO PREVENT and HOW TO RECOVER FROM prostate cancer? Because he is NOT " the world's foremost expert on prostate cancer. " He is perhaps " the world's foremost expert on SURGERY for prostate cancer. " But that is radically, (so to speak), different. When I first went to a urologist decades ago, one of the first things he did was to quote me a statistic. (I've heard various numbers, but this guy said), " Over 70% if men will develop prostate cancer at some time in their lives. " He did not add, " And that's a shame, because there are numerous ways men can guard against developing prostate cancer, and I am going to tell you what they are. " Nor did he add, " And that's why I became a urologist, because, with all those men developing prostate cancer, urology is a very lucrative business! " Decades ago, science and medicine set out to eradicate smallpox, bubonic plague, polio, dyphtheria and other dread dis-eases, and they succeeded. But instead of trying to cut down on the incidence of, or to eradicate prostate cancer, science, doctors and industry set about making Big Money on it! Better titles for Dr. Walsh's books might be: " The Prostate---A Guide For The Men Who Lose Them and The Women Who Lose Their Men, " and " Dr. Patrick Walsh's Guide To Surviving,(Not Living With), and Then Dying From Prostate Cancer. " PLEASE UNDERSTAND, I am not looking to depress anyone on this board, nor to rain on anyone's parade. I am simply OUTRAGED that a SURGEON, who spends his days eviscerating men---dissecting out their prostates, leaving many of them sterile, and allowing great numbers of them to die---while doing NOTHING AT ALL to help men AVOID prostate cancer in the FIRST PLACE---has been awarded the AUA's " Highest Honor. " That is simply and disgustingly RIDICULOUS!
