Guest guest
Hello, I have a question about cookware. One naturopath advised me years ago to only use Vision ware or Corning ware; another advised only Stainless Steel pots and pans that a magnet will stick to. This past week I was advised to no longer cook with Vision ware or Corning ware as they both contain Thallium that leaks from the glassware and it's highly toxic. Better to use Stainless. And only use Stainless that will attract a magnet. The more nickel in the steel, the less the attraction will be. Does anyone know if this statement is true? How can I find out? I do know that all Teflon (and its imitations), enamel and aluminum are absolute NOs. I eat a fair amount of raw, but seem to do better eating some cooked food. Advice please!!! What do you use and recommend? What is safe or safer? Many thanks, Meg
Guest guest
Meg, <This past week I was advised to no longer cook with Vision ware or Corning ware as they both contain Thallium that leaks from the glassware and it's highly toxic. Wow. This is scary. I'm also eating mostly raw these days, but for many years I cooked just about everything in Corningware Visions or Pyrex. Is Pyrex okay, since it's clear? <Better to use Stainless. And only use Stainless that will attract a magnet. The more nickel in the steel, the less the attraction will be. Does anyone know if this statement is true? I don't know if it's true, but I'm allergic to nickel (even the nickel in " silver " jewelry will cause a rash) and while I do have a stainless steel steamer, I try really hard to keep it from scratching. My understanding is that even small scratches will allow for leaking of other bad metals such as nickel. Maybe iron is the only way to go--but I wonder now if even iron is all-iron. Guest guest
> > I do know that all Teflon (and its imitations), enamel and aluminum are > absolute NOs. > I thought enamel was ok. It's made from glass powder right? I was starting to avoid using stainless because of the metallic taste which tells you something is reacting. I heard chromium and nickel were concerns with stainless. I, like you, have been cooking with the visions cookware for many years because it seems to be the safest amd most non reactive. I have nothing to cook in now : -( regards, Bruce
Guest guest
I have nothing to cook in now : -( regards, Bruce Herein is a problem with some of the " information " that gets into our hands. If you follow it down to the " logical " conclusion you end up in the " horse and buggy " days. In regard to cooking there's the talk aout carcinagens being released when you cook over coals. So as, Bruce, says, there is " nothing to cook in now " . I eat lots of raw food and I like it but I still have cooked meals. I stay away from microwaved food and Teflon. My favorite thing to use is good old " black Betty " , my cast iron pan. It also is the original " nonstick " surface. Waymon
