Guest guest
Cancer Loves Sugar Every doctor learned back in medical school all about Otto Warburg's discovery; a discovery of humongous proportions, because way back in the fifties Otto discovered the main biochemical cause of cancer, or what differentiates a cancer cell from a normal, healthy cell. So big a discovery was this, that Otto Warburg was awarded the Nobel Prize. Cancer has only one prime cause. It is the replacement of normal oxygen respiration of the body's cells by an anaerobic [i.e., oxygen- deficient] cell respiration. -Dr. Otto Warburg But what else does Warburg's discovery tell us. First off, it tells us that cancer metabolizes much differently than normal cells. Normal cells need oxygen. Cancer cells despise oxygen. In fact, oxygen therapy is a favorite among many of the alternative clinics we've researched. Another thing this tells us is that cancer metabolizes through a process of " fermentation " . If you've ever made wine, you'll know that fermentation requires sugar. The metabolism of cancer is approximately 8 times greater than the metabolism of normal cells. Okay, so here is what we can put together knowing the above: The body is constantly overworked trying to feed this cancer. The cancer is constantly on the verge of starvation and thus constantly asking the body to feed it. When the food supply is cut off, the cancer begins to starve unless it can make the body produce sugar to feed itself. The wasting syndrome, cachexia,-- is the body producing sugar from *proteins* (you heard it right, not from carbohydrates or fats, but from proteins) in a process called glycogenesis. This sugar feeds the cancer. The body finally dies of starvation, trying to feed the cancer. Now, knowing that one's cancer needs sugar, does it make sense to feed it sugar? Does it make sense to have a high sugar diet? The reason Food Therapies even exist today (beyond the fact that they work) is because someone once saw the connection between sugar and cancer. There are many food therapies, but not a single one allows many foods high in *refined* processed carbohydrates and not a single one allows refined sugar, BECAUSE SUGAR FEEDS CANCER. Why doesn't your physician tell you this? Hard to tell. Maybe your doctor feels it is his job to cure your cancer, not yours. Maybe because your doctor learned about Warburg, but never put the rest together, never placed nutrition into the equation. Maybe because your physician didn't study nutrition. Heck, as late as 1978, the AMA's official position (stated in courts of law) was that nutrition had nothing to do with health or disease. However, those who've paid attention to this sugar craving cancer stuff have come up with some remarkable therapies for cancer. Laetrile is just one. Hydrazine Sulfate, which stops the process of *glycogenesis* in greater than 50% of all patients with cachexia is another. Today, at the University of Minnesota, they are experimenting with a chemotherapy delivered in a " smartbomb. " Here's the scoop: the drug is wrapped in a coating that stays intact as it travels through the body, that is until it reaches a location of " no oxygen " . When it reaches this " no oxygen " location, the coating falls apart releasing the chemotherapy to destroy the cancer, because the only place in your body where there is " no oxygen " is the *cancer* site. Then there are the food therapies: aimed at starving cancer. Knowing what cancer loves, the patient avoids them. Cancers loves 'cooked' foods (this is a relatively recent finding) and cancer loves sugar. If you HATE your cancer, then starve it. Cancer is a combination of illnesses that is characterized by uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells. How does cancer originate? Cancer can originate from internal factors (genetic mutations, hormonal imbalance, etc.) or external factors, (chemical substances, radiation and viruses) or a combination of both. The body renews its tissues by means of cellular division, a mechanism through which cells reproduce. The cells can become cancerous if their genetic mechanism does not follow a correct trajectory. In the normal process of reconstruction of areas with a great amount of dead or defective cells, oncogenes are activated, genes that activate the reproduction of neoplastic cells (cells of neo [new] formation or very rapid reproduction). To avoid the formation of tumors, the process is regulated with suppressing genes of the tumor, that determine that the regenerating tissue grow to the exact size. This mechanism takes place effectively and incessantly from the time of birth. Unfortunately, with the passing of years, every day we are exposed to factors that put our system out of balance. The oncogenes can produce cancer when there are mutations (alterations) in their chemical constitution, due to hereditary factors or negative effects of external agents like viruses, radiation or toxic environmental substances. Can cancer be cured by removing tumors? The abnormal growth of cells produces the formation of tumors. On occasions it is possible to stop the spreading of cancer by removing tumors. This is frequently the case with tumors in the uterus. However, total eradication of the cancer is not guaranteed by the removal of the tumors. This is because cancerous cells are released from the tumor and travel through the blood stream, taking the disease to other parts of the body. What is metastasis? Metastasis is the transference of cancerous cells from one part of the organism (the primary site) to another that is not directly joined with the part where the cancer originated. For example, cancer could originate in the colon and later spread to another organ such as the liver. The cancer would be then referred to as cancer of the colon with metastasis to the liver. How is cancer treated? Conventional methods for treatment of cancer are surgery, radiation, radioactive substances, chemotherapy, hormones, bone marrow transplant and immune therapy (building up of the immune system). Every patient should investigate the advantages and disadvantages of every one of these methods. Surgery is imminent in some types of cancers, but in others the surgeons remove more than is optimal for the patient, like in the removal of a complete breast (radical mastectomy). In the case of breast cancer, a woman can often be helped with a conservative surgery in which only the tumor is removed and the breast is left alone. The procedure is called a lumpectomy. Chemotherapy, which can destroy tumors, on occasion can produce severe secondary effects that deteriorate the quality of life of the patient. I recommend that everyone who is seeking treatment should research the medical journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine. The medical journals publish reports on the efficacy of conventional therapies with each type of cancer. Often times, what doctors are recommending to patients do not reflect the logical conclusion that one would draw after reading the medical journals. A different Approach The traditional approach to combat cancer is to seek and destroy malignant cells at all cost. Many times, this approach focuses on the end to justify the means, even if the patient suffers exceedingly throughout the treatment. My approach is different because my focus is on the quality of life my patient is experiencing, not the eradication of the tumor. I believe that there is no more potent force that can be wheeled against cancer than a potent God-given immune system. Our entire goal at my hospital is to provide the necessary resources for our patients immune systems to regain *proper* function. We do this through organic foods, juices and whole food supplements. It is vital to provide resources to the whole person. This is why we provide spiritual and emotional support as well. Though people come to me with all types of belief systems, I don't believe that one should limit his patient to a certain regimen. It is important to offer a patient anything that will improve his prognosis without harming or compromising his quality of life. It is not what you use, it is how you use it that matters. Most of the time, we end up offering a multi-disciplinary therapy in which alternative methods are employed according to the specific needs of each patient. Can cancer be prevented? The best ways to prevent cancer are: Eat correctly. According to the American Cancer Society Cancer Facts & Figures 2000, one-third of the 552,200 cancer deaths are related to nutrition and lifestyle and are therefore considered to be preventable. Whole food supplements help the human body obtain necessary nutrients in adequate amounts. Do not smoke. According to the American Cancer Society year 2000 projections, 171,000 people will die due to their use of tobacco. Do not drink alcoholic beverages. An estimated 19,000 cancer deaths will be attributed to excess use of alcohol. (ACS Cancer Facts & Figures 2000). Exercise. Exercise promotes the elimination of toxins and fat, both are factors attributed to cancer. Duke University has a group of researchers dedicated to finding the impact of faith on health issues. Their publications to date indicate that people who practice religion recover faster from illness than those who do not. Science has demonstrated that emotional or psychological problems produce physical illnesses. An emotional problem can detonate cancer. Our faith can help us deal with any emotional problem. By not denying the problem, we can position ourselves into the perfect place for recuperation. It is important to cultivate a spiritual life although our main motivation to cultivate it should not be to avoid illnesses. Conclusion Many illnesses are produced by bad lifestyle habits. We should be aware of the tools available to us for a healthy life. Even if you become totally informed on what to do to avoid illness, it is of no benefit if you do not act.
