Troy, chief counsel for the Food and Drug Administration, resigned Tuesday with plans to return to the private sector. Troy, 44, took over as the FDA's senior legal adviser in August 2001. " More than three years passed. And we won the election. And that's about the amount of time that I intended to serve, " Troy said. His resignation takes effect Nov. 28. Lester Crawford, FDA acting commissioner, accepted the resignation with " mixed emotions, " according to a statement. Troy " has served the agency with tireless dedication. Shortly after Dan's arrival, he faced a major challenge, assisting the Agency in addressing the myriad public health dimensions of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Thereafter, he provided excellent legal support to the agency as we responded to the anthrax attacks and reoriented the agency to its new counter terrorism responsibilities, " Crawford said. Troy also helped the FDA speed access to generic drugs. And he helped settle First Amendment questions, encouraging the FDA to allow conventional foods to carry limited health claims. And know where the law favored a particular position. " Troy said he and his family will remain in Chevy Chase, Md., but was unclear about his future employment. Government rules preclude him from appearing before the agency, having his name on a legal brief or making contact with the FDA on behalf of a client for one year. " I've not accepted a job. I've not even interviewed for a job. I'm not going to interview for a job until after I leave this job, " he said. " But I plan to return to private practice. " Jerry Masoudi, current deputy associate general counsel, will become acting FDA chief counsel until a permanent replacement is appointed. ======== ======== .. ..
