Guest guest
Oakdale, Minn. (WCCO.com) Trace elements of perfluorochemicals have been found in the water supply in Oakdale, Minn. PFCs are a potentially dangerous byproduct of several items once manufactured by 3M. Those byproducts were disposed in local dumps. Recent tests found the amount of the chemicals found in the Oakdale water supply is less than one part per billion, which is well within the Minnesota Department of Health's guidelines. Both city and state leaders say residents should not worry about their drinking water. " The water is safe to drink, " said Jim Kelly, with the Minnesota Department of Health. " The concentrations are below that we have established that are safe for all users of the system. " Officials say the water in Oakdale will be continually monitored. A spokesperson for 3M said the only adverse effects of PFCs have turned up in tests on animals and not in humans. PFCs are used to make products that resist heat, including nonstick cookware.
