Dear " as " ,

I was concieved in Summertown Tennessee when both my parents were teaching

there. Since I was born in December I figure it was over Spring break when

they had a week off teaching.

When I graduated from the University of Alabama I was going to go and live

on The Farm.

The first night I was going to spend the night in one of the female tents

and go work out on the fields the next day the conversation turned to the

delivery of the picks for hair lice expected the next day. I departed the

next day to move to Nashville to start teaching with my degree.

My daughter was born on the living room floor several years later while I

was in chiropractic college after 21 hours labor by a midwife who

was trained at the Santa Cruz Birth Center where the first witch hunts

against midwives started by the medics for delivering babies, not a disease,

without a license.

My daughter was breast feed for 3 years and not vaccinated.

I still caution persons from providing specific information regarding

something like

how to turn a breech baby over the intenet.

You could use terminology such as:

I'm not giving advice but if it was me this is what I would do but i would

not give advice to anyone about how to turn a breech baby. Refer them to

where to find the information or say that is how you would do it. Parents of

brain damaged or dead babies are not going to be very grateful for your

attempts to be helpful and could hurt the alternative medicine movement.

Turning a breech baby en utero is not delivering the baby. It's attempting

to turn the baby from having their buttocks delivered first instead of the

cranium. It's a 180 degree turn.

You will not find anyone more philosophical supportive of being self

sufficient for your health.

Trying to turn you own baby when you don't have ultra sound to know where

the cord is

is absolutely out of the question and should not be considered part of the

self-help alternative health care movement. Find someone experienced.

Period.

After that baby is out and breathing and you have a good apgar score, refuse

to give the hospital the name of the baby and don't sign the forms to give

him/her a social security number, don't give permissionto put silver nitrate

in the eyes or permission to do an episotomy without your written consent

during the labor.

If you are willing to handle what women have been handling since the

beginning of time without drugging your child before s/he is born, you will

have an exileration after the birn that you will never forget.

If you can find an Doctor of Chiropractic that does cranial work that is a

good idea for the Mother after all that pushing.

Eat lots of oatmeal and alfalfa sprouts-make good milk for cow and humans.

Shave grass and oat straw tea help prevent stretch.

And if you are really hard core natural health:

make placenta pie and eat it to put the nutrition lost back into the milk.

If you have ever watched your dog give birth you will notice that she has

sense enough not to let that go to waste.

I didn't have the guts but I did save it in the freezer until the children

of the neighborhood who were given permission from their parents got to have

a science lesson from it.

Thank you,

Dr. Sandra Lance, D.C.

Re the question about breech births

From my reading, it takes extensive hands-on

experience to be familiar with the delivery process

enough to manually assist a mother in this way. That's

why most doctors can't do it. I don't think you have

to worry about the knowledge being shared in this

group.

On the other hand, through the discussion, we have

learned about some therapies that may help, and I

believe we are all the wiser.

Myself, I would be happy if doctors would just worry

about their own screw ups and let everyone else worry

about what they choose to do or not do.
