Guest guest
http://www.mercola.com/2005/apr/2/splenda_propaganda.htm Beware of More Deceptive Splenda Propaganda Splenda LogoMcNeil Nutritionals, a division of Johnson & Johnson and makers of the no-calorie artificial sweetener Splenda, are astute marketers for they have now joined forces with The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) to support an AAFP fitness project: Americans in Motion (AIM). AIM is a 10-year endeavor designed to improve the lives of individuals, families and communities. The initiative was created in response to the growing obesity epidemic in the United States and specifically focuses on physical activity, nutrition and emotional well being. According to a member of the AAFP, AIM is a great opportunity to help eliminate the health problems associated with a deficiency in fitness such as: * Diabetes * Depression * Hypertension * Heart disease McNeil Weasels Their Way Into the " Health Spotlight " Support for AIM is made feasible due to an education grant given by McNeil Nutritionals. The grant will fund the development and distribution of a tool kit designed to help family physicians improve the health of their patients. The kit not only holds valuable resources to help health care professionals interact with patients, but also take-home materials for patients to incorporate healthy eating and exercise habits into their daily lives. Materials include: * A patient education guide that includes tips on healthy eating and active living called " 1-2-3 Sensible Steps to Help You Manage Your Weight " * A food and activity tracker for patients to record their daily food intake and physical activities * Health guides, which include advice to help patients remain motivated through their weight management journey * Fitness prescription pads for physicians to prescribe fitness-related activities to their patients PharmaLive.com March 15, 2005 Dr. Mercola's Comment: Splenda is now America's leading sweetener, displacing real sugar manufacturers. However, the public is starting to catch on to the potential dangers of Splenda and McNeil wisely decided to take a proactive stance and seek to give themselves a healthy image by financially supporting a health initiative. This is just another example of their deceptive marketing ploys. It's a great move on their part, as the average consumer is currently clueless about the health side effects of Splenda and this positioning will help to convince them that Splenda is harmless. However, that will not last much longer. You can't hide the truth from the public for much longer. Soon the public will learn the many hidden dangers of Splenda, not the least that it is made from phosgene, a poisonous gas. Are You Being Blinded by Splenda's Marketing? Splenda would like you to believe that it is natural because it is made from sugar. Well this simply isn't true and the Sugar Association sued them for this marketing strategy. Although the process for developing it starts with a sugar molecule, chlorine molecules are added to it. Splenda shares many similar characteristics to pesticides like DDT that can accumulate in your body fat and tissues. It is impossible to predict the long-term consequences of ingesting this substance over many years. You will be absolutely shocked when I share with you the details of the safety studies on how Splenda were conducted. I am still completing my investigations but this may be one of this biggest health stories of the year. Splenda has NEVER been proven to be safe in any way shape or form. If you think that just because the FDA approved it, that it is safe .... think again. I can assure you that it had far less review than Vioxx, which was approved by the FDA and that drug killed 55,000 people! (There are very serious flaws in the current FDA approval process and if you are interested in learning more please read my review about this issue.) Splenda has been linked to a number of toxic side effects including shrunken thymus glands (up to 40 percent shrinkage), enlarged liver and kidneys, reduced growth rate, aborted pregnancy and diarrhea. However, if you still don't believe that Splenda has the potential to cause you harm and want to continue to use it, I encourage you to review my extensive Splenda testimonials pages as you might change your mind. The pages are filled with heartbreaking stories about the toxic effects this artificial sweetener may inflict. Nearly every month, we receive a report from someone who has had an adverse reaction to Splenda, and after reading just a few of the submitted testimonials it's likely you won't ever want to look at it again!
