Guest guest
Hello To All, I first want to say thanks to everyone who contributes with all of the wonderful and exciting information. I joined the group with little or no knowledge other than I wanted to be more health conscious and recycle a bit. To my amazement I REALLY want to change the life of myself and my family after being in this group. I was so excited I went a little overboard and jumped right into a no smoking and detox plan without enough information. I have now calmed down a little and started educating myself. I am still working on the smoking (harder than I thought) and food. Here are the steps I have taken since the new year begun and thoughts and suggestions would be helpful. Found an organic store and learning to go all natural or organic in the food department. Getting rid of the cleaning supplies and learning to use safe homemade cleaning aides. Exercising 3 times a week (wasn't doing that at all) At night the kids and myself are drinking organic honey & lemon in hot water, hubby adds apple cider vinegar to his. Taking the following all natural supplements: (me & hubby) Flax seed oil 1000mg -once a day (recommends 2 to 3 a day) dry skin Joint Support Complex -one soft gel a day (recommends 3) hubby knee, my leg Cat's Claw 540 mg-once a day(recommends 2 to 3 capsules 3 times a day) smoking (do they mean 9 a day?) Permarin 0.65- once a day (had complete hyst) Also Juice Plus - one of each a day (recommends 2 a day) So what I need to know ........how do I know when it is safe to mix supplements? Is ok to take less than the recommend dosage? Do I take them forever or until the problem goes away? There is so much to do and change that as excited as I am, it's a little overwhelming. What changes are the most important to begin with? Thanks so much for your help in advance!! All hints, tips and ideals welcome! Guest guest
Hi Susan, Good for you! Some of the supplements you will take for a short while and others you would want to take longer term such as the joint complex. YOu can take lesser amounts but will not have the necessary effect. Yes it would be 9 capsules a day. The smoking may need something more like Biofeeback or hypnotherapy which are both very effective in smoking cessation. Also a clay bath for smokers detox. Flax seed oil you can take 1 TBS high lignen 2 times a day mixed into cottage cheese instead of so many pills. Best to start with essentials and then add in other things. Nurtition is the best point to start with. It looks like you have made a good start. Minerals, EFA's and amino acids will help. Bragg's Aminos you can get and mix into your food after you have prepared not before you cook. It's like adding soy sauce or worstershire sauce. Lots of water with proper minerals and electrolytes. Guest guest
Wow- sounds like you are really moving in the right direction- kudos to you! > So what I need to know ........how do I know when it is safe to mix > supplements? Mainly trial and error- and asking others. There are some references available, but there are so many supplements and new ones coming on the market, that its impossible to for any reference to list them all, and what affects some people, doesn't affect others. > Is ok to take less than the recommend dosage? I generally figure recommended is a guideline, not a hard and fast rule. By all means try a lower dose, then build up. Keep in mind that some supplements are really more preventive, so you may not feel a difference, which doesn't mean it isn't working. > Do I take them forever or until the problem goes away? Depends on why you're taking them. For instance, Juice Plus is something that is not designed to treat a particular problem, but is instead an " insurance policy " for getting adequate nutrition. You might easily choose to stay on it (or an alternate supplement that acomplishes the same thing) for the rest of your life, or you could end up changing your diet so much that you no longer feel the need for an insurance policy, as you eat sufficient organic fruits and veggies. I don't eat enough fruits and veggies, so I prefer to take an insurance policy, which in my case is called Lifeshots. For your knee/leg problem, you might find that you need to take a higher dose to get the problem under control, and then can back down to a lower dose for maintenance once the problem has subsided.
