Guest guest
I am really yelling for help here -- my 14-year old son, is absolutely miserable with his skin. He has acne, which I understand is somewhat normal for his age but being in his 1st year in HS, I also understand how miserable he is and how cruel other kids can be He has tried everything from ProActive (made it worse) to Arnica twice a day wet method, Sulphur ( both homeopathic) to Neem soap with little to no results. Desription of what is going on with his face only (not on back, neck, etc.)...very red, dry blotchy looking white heads. He has very fair skin which seem to be sensitive. Any suggestions are truly appreciated...am at wits-end. Really do not have the funds to start w/a dermatologist. Thanks in advance. Guest guest
Hello Lisa, There are different reasons why people get acne. What is his diet like? does he drink plenty of water? could look at changing his diet. There is also the hormonal issue - not sure what you can do there perhaps someone else on the group can help. Products like Proactive are LOADED with harmful chemicals. Guest guest
I really like AVEENO CLEAR COMPLEXION FOAMING CLEANSER: " This instant, soap-free foaming cleanser with moisture-rich soy extracts and a dermatologist-recommended blemish-fighting ingredient, helps improve skin's tone and texture and clears up blemishes without over- drying skin. " It seems to work. I have acne also, and this cleanser is very gentle. I also use tee tree oil on blemishes or my entire face. I just put it on a cotton swab and dab it on the area. , " leesali11561 " <leesali wrote: > > I am really yelling for help here -- my 14-year old son, is absolutely > miserable with his skin. Guest guest
Also try Tea Tree essential oil. Just dab some on his face. Tea tree is anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral! Make sure he's not using products that contain glycerin, mineral oil, or petroleum derivatives. These ingredients will clog pores. -- Shana Clagg Hormone Health Nature's Way http://health.HormoneHealthNW/ The " Safest Products in the World " : http://www.ineways.com/shana
Guest guest
First off he needs to clean up his diet. Cut out the junk food, drink lots of water. I used a routine on our cat for feline acne and it worked like a charm. Steep loose green tea, make it super concentrated. Take a cotton ball and apply the tea to the acne twice a day. After that applpy vitamin E oil from capsules and Vitamin A from capsules. You should see it clearing up in a few weeks time if not sooner. Good luck. Guest guest
He NEEDS probiotics in his system..this is why he is breakign out so bad..too much toxins and yeast in the bowel. Eliminate Dairy..it will make it worse and get on a gentle but effective Acne Treatment system. I can recommend one. A liver cleanse would be useful as well or even just some lemon juice in water. Suffered acne all my life until i found a good probiotic, eliminated dairy and started on a gentle acne system. Harsh ones aggravated it for me. Email me if you want any info or recommendations. Guest guest
Dear Lisa: My 16-year-old son is self-conscious about his acne too and we had tried several treatments to no avail. Then I bought some jewelweed salve for my own problem skin and he tried it too. After a couple of days we could really see a difference--less redness, fewer blemishes. His skin isn't clear but it is much better than it was. Jewelweed is difficult to find, but I bought it from Alternative Nature, www.altnature.com. It comes in soap, spray or salve form. Hope this helps. Martha , " leesali11561 " <leesali wrote: > > I am really yelling for help here -- my 14-year old son, is absolutely > miserable with his skin. Guest guest
To add to that..No alchol or alcohol based products as they can dry the skin and cause the pores to close over the acne rather than open them up to drain. My son whose 16 has had horrible acne, is step mother took him to the dr, who gave him antibiotics and cleansers that never truly cleared it up. When he came back home it started to clear up when he quit the meds and started to eat healthier and finally when his stress level was reduced it went away on it own. Guest guest
Hi Lisa, You've gotten some really good replies so far. I totally agree with the liver and colon advice. If there is too much estrogen in the body (beef is a big source) or other hormones and the liver can't detoxify it, the toxins will come through the skin. It is almost impossible to get rid of acne without cleaning up the diet. Sugar and milk are big culprits. White flour may also be aggravating things. If he has to eat meat, organic will have far less toxins and hormones although anything from an animal will have some hormone content. Although fish oil is good and I would also recommend taking a spoon of cod liver oil 3 times a day (Carlson's), I wouldn't recommend fish because of its mercury content. Carlson's cleans theirs quite well. Clay is a good cleanser for the face. We use a clay mask from Australia that also contains essential oils and herbs. It's not the cheapest one but it is very pleasant to use and also has a slight exfoliating effect. It removes oil and deep cleans the skin without any irritations and absorbs toxins. I have a whole skin care protocol for acne in attachement form that I could email you if you mail me first. Try to stay away from all toxins. Check www.ewg.org for their Skin Deep report. You can see what the danger level is for all types of personal care products. There are about 10000 products listed. Search for whatever he's using now and become an educated (and probably very ticked off consumer). We've had very good results with detoxifying the body. The skin will look after itself quite nicely when there are no extra toxins to deal with. This could get very lengthy but if you have more specific questions, email me off list. I've got tons of documents and personal experience with having acne. Probably not as severe as your son's though. In my quest for perfect skin, I also tried Pro-active for two months a few years ago and it was horrible. A good probiotic superfood like the one we use will not only recolonize his bowels, help him to assimilate his food better and utilize the nutrients but it will also help him to build healthy new cells. Hope this helps to lead you in the right direction. I know what this is like for teenagers. It can ruin their entire social life and make them very insecure. Hope he gets over this quickly. Homeschooling is a great way to boost his confidence in himself. I am not a big fan of the school system! Guest guest
I would suggest eliminating " commercial " dairy, and see if you can't find raw goat's milk, organic if you can find that. It comes with its own probiotics and is easier to digest. Our son is nearly 15, and quite prone to acne, but with regular intake of goat's milk, as well as probiotics (acidophilus capsules), the acne has calmed down to almost none. The only thing he does for face washing is rinsing daily with warm water, so as not to strip too much of the natural oils, and if he breaks a pimple, putting on dab of vitamin e oil every day till it's healed, to help prevent scarring. He also doesn't eat any junk food (his choice... gets mad with me for my moments of weakness when I do), and for snacks he eats nuts, dried fruit, fresh fruit and vege. Again, HIS choice. We are also fortunate enough to have our own dairy goats and house cow, so any and all dairy products are home made (ice cream, cheese, yoghurt, etc). Even if you don't have your own farm, you can still seek out whole foods, sometimes available in stores, sometimes straight from the farm (which is what we did before we had our own farm). Guest guest
Hi, been lurking here for a while... now finally something I can relate to.... You have gotten some good advice already, so let me just add to the mix. Part of the problem with acne( beyond diet and other things already mentioned) is over-productive oil glands.. The skin as a living organism uses signals from its surface to request the things it needs to heal and protect itself. Hence the " oil glands " , since we are made up of a large % of water, and water evaprorates into the surrounding environment rapidly, the oil glands act as a protective barrier while at the same time lubricating the surface layers of the skin. It's a great system mostly, but sometimes this process works too well! Senario- wake up, wash face, go outside... its cold (or hot) skin loses moisture... skin tells glands I'm dry!!! glands start producing oil and sends to the surface to protect it. Go inside, wash face because it's oily, grimy, whatever... notice blemish, use harse acne products to make blemish go away! hum, what happens... Skin is red, irritated and now the surface is twice as dry because of the harsh skin products.. uh oh. oil glands go into overdrive... we use more and more stuff to make the oil go away, and again the oil glands go crazy.... it's a viscious cycle...but it's only the body's defense to the over dry skin! As to the suggestions you have gotten already, Love the tea tree and probiotics suggestions, along with diet and drinking lots of water..I would add some vitamine E to the tea tree oil, as this is one of the antioxidants that help carry oxygen to the cells to boost cell growth and renewal... Beyond that you MUST find him an oil free moisturizer, preferably with a sunscreen if he is not allergic. Someone else said to get a gentle acne system, and I do agree to make it gentle... use a product to spot treat, cleans, tone (alcohol free) and especially moisturize! new senario- wake up, wash and tone skin, apply moisturizer, go outside... skin is happy, skin is protected, skin is hydrated, oil glands take a vacation!!! In over 25 years in the Skin Care industry and now some 5 years in a Medical field, I promise you it will help! Ok I know I'm rambling, but I just must finish with the toner step.. A lot of us have gotten away from that step, but think of it like this, would you wash your clothes and then wear them without putting them through a rinse cycle! Same idea! Hope this helps some, as it has helped with my own 15 year old! Blessings Maya
Guest guest
Hi Carol, thanks for the reminder of Acidophilus. It is often prescribed by doctors for patients who are on long-term antibiotics to take after the antibiotic course is complete...to restore the natural " good bugs " in the body....as antibiotics will kill those as well as the " bad " ones. I loved your link to your novel site. May I have permission to share with others? I've just started a 360 page and lighthouses are one of my interests. Guest guest
I have found out by helping people to cure the problem something quite out of the ordinary. All of the people that had this problem ate the cookies that are in the refrigerator section at the market and are sliced and baked. If you are using this type of cookie dough switch to making the cookies from scratch and reduce the sugar to 1/2 called for in recipe. Actually it would be best to cut out sweets entirely but knowing teens, they will not follow this advice. Advise to stop all carbonated drinks also,it is 99% sugar. Sugar is very often aggravating to this condition. In the meantime have him soak a wash rag in a hot water and oregano oil solution of 2 DROPS of the oregano oil in 1 oz of water. Make up 8 ounces for this application, ( 16 DROPS oregano oil.) Leave on face till cold and keep doing this several times. this can be done at night before bed. A drop is NOT a dropper full, this stuff is very hot. If he gets hives or a rash, wash with soap and water and discontinue, give Benedryl. This is not usual but one of my 9 grandchildren was allergic to it. If this happens, Switch to hydrogen peroxide and water after a couple days. Instructions should be on the bottle. On weekends he can use a clay mask. Bentonite clay is good, just add enough hot water or lavender tea to make a paste. Apply and when dry wash off. It would be good for him to drink sarsaparilla tea, 3 - 4 cups a day to balance the hormones. A few raisins in the tea when steeping will sweeten it. 1 tablespoon sarsaparlla for each cup. Add to boiling water, turn off, cover and steep at least 20 minutes, 30 is better. To cleanse the kidneys and liver add Dandelion leaf and root capsules. Follow directions on container. This will help remove the toxins that are probably contributing to this problem V-8 juice would help also or make your own vegetable juice if you have a juicer. Read the ingredients off the can to duplicate. 1st ingredient is the largest amount and so on in descending order Vitamin A in the natural form as in yellow fruits and veggies would also help, Apricots have a large amount of A as does yellow squash and also real butter.instead of margerine..He could also prick vitamin A capsules and apply to face once a day. Vitamin A taken internally in large amounts or for prolonged periods can damage liver, Beta Carotene can be used though which the body will convert into Vitamin A. Good luck, this is a problem that takes much attention to diet and takes a while to correct. He will have to really want to solve the problem. Peace, Thyme

Guest guest
It may not be the same kind of thing, but my 15yo gets a few zits and black/whiteheads. I keep telling him to *scrub* his face with a nice nubbly washrag, with lots of natural soap. It's obvious when he does this, and when he doesn't. Works on my skin, too. Maybe it just helps keep the tops of the pores open so that the crap can come out easier... Guest guest
If you have access to simple plain clay apply it lightly on the part of body in question and expose to sun light for an hour and when totlly dry peel of and report what happens. Dr VS Jenny Kernan <rainysnana wrote: To add to that..No alchol or alcohol based products as they can dry the skin and cause the pores to close over the acne rather than open them up to drain. My son whose 16 has had horrible acne, is step mother took him to the dr, who gave him antibiotics and cleansers that never truly cleared it up. When he came back home it started to clear up when he quit the meds and started to eat healthier and finally when his stress level was reduced it went away on it own. Guest guest
For acne problem eat regularly the cooked curry leaves easily available in South Indian cuisine. Usually they are considered as just ceremonial ingredients, and are usually cast way at the tabe. Their regular consumption imparts immunity from many diseases. They are a boon to diabetics too. ________ India Answers: Share what you know. Learn something new http://in.answers./
